I'd avoid imports if possible, you don't know the history and some insurance companies charge a group more on it.

Also I think the mags rate the GS5 and CB5 over the ER. Do you really want to own a kawasaki?

I assume that he means a parallel import? In which case, it shouldn't affect the insurance...but could explain why it's relatively cheap. Honda's tend to resist corrosion better, and generally put together better.

How about a CB4/1 Superfour? Unfortunately, they are grey import only, but I reckon that they look quite good, but look out for ex-courier bikes (although that's a tribute to their reliability etc).

Go with tin's plan, cbr400 engine is bullet proof and would be way more fun from a-b

For what it is, it doesn't look a bad buy at all for £1400.

10000 miles is pretty low for a 99, commuter/courier bike, id say go for it, check service history and find out when the critical service is... if not go for a cb500, but becareful most of them are ex-courier bikes!

I went to see it today and it's a French import still with a froggy plate. I wouldn't say it is in "excellent" condition. It's been dropped on it's left hand side and has a few scratches and a small dent in the tank, and a small rip in the seat. The Warranty is 1 month/1000 miles. Probably still good for the money though - wish I was mechanically minded so I knew what I was looking at. Embarassed

I was hoping to get a bike this weekend as my Planet insurance runs out and I can't be bothered re-insuring it.

Well that previous GS has gone already. Sad I've noticed this on Ebay. Anyone ever been daft enough to buy a bike they haven't seen before?

Quote:
Honda CB 500

Mileage: 27000 MOT Certificate: 6 Months Remaining...this is a superb purchase...this bike has no details whatsoever, apart from a litle scrach on head light arc,(foto), tyres, chain sprockets, body, absolutly mint...it has done just over 27000 miles with full history and 2 former keeper

currently at £1121 - about 4 hours left!

Sorry to bore you all with my prospective purchases. Somehow I feel better just for posting them here, even if nobody was to reply! Rolling Eyes Smile

I know I know I know!!!

I just phoned the guy to get some details... it seems good... I've already got a decent insurance quote. Very Happy

It's just... bidding for a bike I've never seen - I'm feeling kind of nervous. Fuck me, my hands are sweating Embarassed Confused

I think I'll stay on the computer for the next few hours... I can't get any work done. Chances are when I do bid that it will go too high for me. Confused

i've bought 2 bikes off ebay in the past without seeing them close up because they were too far away, one was absolutely fine but the other was an absolute shitter but i did manage to resell it for the same price so it worked out fine - just wasted a lot of time Sad

I've bought 2 bikes off eBay, they were both OK bikes, definately good for the price.

I would not buy a bike off eBay if I could buy it locally for a similar price
