First time I've ran out of petrol. I was going about 85 on the outside lane of a duel carraige way and it just died.

Got to say my arse collapsed a bit. Shocked

Didn't know what was happening and I initially thouht my bike was fucked.

Then it clicked, NO PETROL Rolling Eyes DOH!

Harsh man, only happened to me once when I had a 50 - was going round a roundabout and couldn't get any revs. Shocked How'd you manage that did you forget you were on reserve or something?

Cam.

No i wasn't on reserve.I didn't actually run out of fuel, maybe that was a bit strong Laughing , i still had reserve.

It's just that it's the first time I've ever had the pleasure of the engine being starved of petrol when i'm trying to go really fast

Not pleasant

hehe...It's fun when you run out of fuel when it's quiet, but say on a motorway, it isn't such a great experience... I sometimes run the fly down to fumes for fun. Smile

Then just click it onto reserve then fill it up.

Glad to hear all is well.

I can laugh about it now, but as I was coming to a halt all sorts of crazy thoughts were coming into my mind thinking about what could be wrong.

When i used to have my ZX6R, a similar thing happened to me, plodding around at about 40mph and the bike started running rough, like it was running on 2 cylinders, i continued riding for half a mile, and didn't understand what was wrong, i maybe though it was carb-icing because it was a very very cold morning (Kwaks are known for carb-icing problems), after pulling over and shaking my bike from side to side i worked out there was no fuel, what a plonker! Embarassed but i'm sure after it happens once it wont be happening again. Wink

lol! i cant believe you bought this topic up, that happened to me today too!

Was going along at about 40, then all of a sudden noticed the bike wouldn't rev any higher, so wouldn't go any faster, it kept on for about 200 yards, then i pulled over and the bike just died at that point and i didn't realise what had happened!

I thought aah must be petrol, so switch over to reserve and it wouldn't start! i was like SHIT!, and was just about to walk to this farm for a telephone, when i realised i had to wait for the petrol to come through. Left it for a min, started up perfectly and i carried on to the nearest petrol station Rolling Eyes

I also had to clean my trousers of the shit! As i thought my bike had broke! Crying or Very sad well thats an experience that i hope i will not come across soon!

The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago I was hitting at 75mph on a duel carriageway overtaking a truck in the outside lane when it just died forcing me to hit the indicators and wait for 2 cars to pass before i could swing it into the tiny lay by and switch it onto reserve, quite a scary experience I'm just glad that nothing was right behind me otherwise it could have had a scary outcome!

I always run mine down to reserve before filling up, its a bit of a pain if you are just overtaking when the petrol runs out (which has happened before now with a lorry coming the otherway!)

You get used to switching onto reserve as you are still rolling along, its simple enough. Once your on reserve just make sure you fill up soonish, my rs125 has about 30 mile worth of petrol in its reserve.

1. Why the bold?
2. Why have CBR600RR in your sig if you ride CB500?
3. Why *** out the swear words? This isn't a crappy book or cheap film!
4. Maybe they would have given you a lift to the nearest petrol station, as I don't think it's possible to be illegal on CB500 Rolling Eyes Razz

He does ride like a ???!

I don't quite know why, but I always run mine to reserve now before I fill up, even tho I've got my speedo(there for odo) working again and know how far I can go in the main tank.

Ah well, ours is not to reason why...

The RF would only do 160 to a tank and it had a bigger tank than any sports 600 and was better on economy.
However Ste does ride like a poof Wink
