ZX7R noise when starting

Started the bike up this morning, even with my helmet on i noticed a very loud clicking noise as it ticked over.
I took my helmet off, listened near the center of the bike, hmmm could have been coming from anywhere but sounded like near the plugs.

After about 2 minutes it stopped, and the bike sounded fine. Confused

Um, whats that?

Next time you start the bike, can you check if it goes away when you pull the clutch in?

Sounds exactly like what happens when you have a tiny (and I mean, tiny) leak at one of the exhaust headers - the noise goes away as the bike heats up, the gasket expands and blocks the hole.

Could also be a lack of oil about the head on these nasty cold mornings.

sounds to me like one of your plugs could be slightly loose or maybe as said above a slight leak on one of the exhaust headers as when they warm up they will expand n noise stops etc...

Could be lack of oil, maybe check the oil level and the condition of it make sure it aint thick n gungy, and also see if it goes away when you pull the clutch in...

My GPZ has been doing that but I vaguely assumed that it was a valve. Now that I think of it, it did backfire and pop on the overrun a week or so ago. It never does that. It also had sounded a bit loud when low in the rev range.

The rotor magnets disintegrating kind of drew my focus away from anything like an exhaust leak. Neutral

The spark may be jumping from some of the HT leads to the head when
wet or damp.Try insulating tape on the leads and see if that fixes it.If it
does then change the leads.

Sorry guys, I forgot about making this thread!

It didn’t happen this morning….nothing, just sounded normal again.

One thing I do know is…..ZX7’s aren’t built for winter.
Got to get on that RXS.

If it happens again, I’ll check the plugs, hmm perhaps I’ll do that anyway.
I had a service, and then shortly after plug and oil change. Was about 1500 miles ago, so oils fine.
