I think that most landlords will be picky about their tenants, i.e. wanting several years' worth of references, credit histories, etc. However, I reckon that you could wing it if your GF's family have a good reputation.

Im sure you have to have some sort of training to run a pub. My mates dad runs the Queens Head Pub in Heston. Its Fullers i think?? Anyway im sure his son said you couldnt just go out and get yourself a pub.... i may be wrong. Its all to much effort for my liking.

It's £750 for the 10 day training course which is compulsary even for experienced operators.
There aren't many landlords around anymore, it's more Pub Operators like Punch, Enterprise and Pubmaster. They're generally not too picky so long as you're making money

Hi

Being honest it is likely to be a load of work for little money.

Firstly you will probably have to get up really early in the morning for the deliveries.

There isn't much money in drink, you get that through the food.

Do you really like the prospect of trying to find the part of a drunk on which they haven't pissed themselves so you can carry them out.

Do you really want to have no time to go out yourselves.

Do you really want to stand a good chance of being in a hell of a lot of debt and then loosing the pub?

How keen on going out for a night on the piss do you think you will be having been watching people get drunk and make a**eholes of themselves for months?

All the best

Keith

m8, scarborough is just the place!, if you get it near the shore front your laughing!

I was there two weeks back and there were hundreds of bikers, there's one pub near the fairground which was packed, there was no room to move and bikers were everywhere trying to find a spot to sit and drink.

good luck with the business.

if you wana run a bikers pub drop my mate a line, he owns squires bikers cafe near sherburn Cool

I know a coupla people who run pubs. It's not as bad as Keith makes out, if you want a night out you can get staff to cover. My local is run by Steve and Katherine who are Landlord and Landlady and they've just got back off holiday and they go out for a night out maybe once a fortnight, which is enough to be honest. It's just a matter of finding a few select members of staff, and nominating a bar manager to run the place whilst you ain't there.

The deliveries is a good point though, unless you can wing it so it arrives mid morning or something. Either way you don't have to be up really early, probably 9am getting up would be sound. If the delivery arrives at 6am you sort it out then go back to bed for a couple more hours.

It is quite hard work, but you're more motivated because it's your money, not just someone you work for and you're guaranteed a wage every month. I reckon you could both make it work Deano, so go for it.

It's true as well, BCF could have meets there, and I bet it's a good ride out for us northerners to Scarborough too, so we'd pop in quite regularly Smile
