Anyone downgeared a GS500 before? Not too arsed about top speed, 80mph is about fine, I just want more acceleration and the ability to power wheelie
A link to a calculator would be handy as well please |

just be sure to keep a foot over the back brake. I'm no wheelie god but the first time "i got it up" it scared the living crap out of me and it seemed like the front wheel was 15ft up (though it was prob more like 12") if it comes up too far stamp on back brake. That'll bring it back down (and a new set of fork seals) |

Do you realise what downgearing to 80mph would do to your fuel consumption? |

Toby, wouldnt even bother changing gearing mate, on a GS500E with little over 45bhp, it wont make a difference. If it had been a 150bhp R1 or the likes then yeah go for it if you want better acceleration, but on a bike with so little power, you wont notice it and will just wear out the chain quicker.
As of speed on standard sprockets, ive had 125mph on the clocks of mine. Bearing in mind, there will be speedo error so take about 10% off what ever your clocks are reading for a more accurate measurement.
They are top end heavy and not made to wheelie. However if you hold revs at around the 5-6k mark and dump the clutch, you should get the front wheel in the air. ____________________ Speed doesn't kill. The sudden stopping does.

I kept it for 10 years while the various race reps only when out on a sunny day.Only parted with her 2 years ago. Take a look at the pics, was still mint when it went.
Anyway is the goose not the 400cc version if so 95MPH might be right. |
Man... guess mine is a shitter then.
Oh well. |
