Well I have been up since 5.00am thanks to my little bro's. Just thought I would pop online and wish all of you a merry christmas. I thought that since today is my only day off I would start this torrent stuff everyone has been raving on about. I have managed to get a client and download one album successfully but I am still a bit confused and need help for the wise ones.

Arrow Why do some torrents download quicker than others?
Arrow What are seeders and leechers?
Arrow Do any of you know any good torrent sites for albums that have quick download times?

Cheers in advance and once again wishing you all a very merry christmas, don't get too pissed.

Banditz

Seeders are people who have the whole file e.g. the whole album and are uploading to others, sharing in other words.

Leechers are people who don't have the full file and are downloading, but they also share what bits of the file they have.

The speed at which you download depends on how many people are sharing the file, their upload speed, and the seeder to leecher ratio. If only one person has the file and 100 are trying to download it and doesn't have a super fast connection then it will be slow to download.

I use www.torrentspy.com to find stuff to download.

First off get a half decent client (e.g. Azureus), change the default port (isp's sometimes cap it) then make sure your router is correctly setup for port forwarding on the new port. If this is all good you should get decent speeds off popular torrents as Joe's said.

What ISP are you with? Although they advertise unlimited a lot of them Throttle Ports

I was with Tiscali who are an absolute waste of space for downloading from p2p, newsgroups, online gaming etc.

Another link for explanation Traffic Shaping

If you're using Azureus, try making these changes. Thumbs Up
