Just a thought for 2 years now my hobby has been motorcycling.

Before that I must admit I was in to computers. Now I feel quite embarrassed about it, like if I'm on a plane/train etc and i'm reading a computer magazine, I feel like a sado. Whereas if I'm reading MCN, Superbike I feel fine.

Has anyone else given up a hobby to motorcycling.

Don't get me wrong I still like I.T, but I don't mention it to anyone.

Dohhh except you guys. Laughing

I used to make airfix models. Not unheard of for me to spend 20-30 hours on one. Folks used to think I was being unreasonable for thumping my little brother when he broke them.

I used to knit. Embarassed

No, honestly, I did.

In fact I still have about 3 plastic crates of unused wool under the bed that I really should get round to doing something with soon.

/me thinks about the size and shape a bike-cosy would need to be.

I also used to hang around music venues watching promising young bands and trying to get to know them....... Embarassed oops, I still do that....... Wink

Used to be into athletics - running (100m/200m) and the high jump.

Haven't done any sprinting or high jump for about 4 years now though! lol.

I am still into computers though, programming Java, C++, PHP.

Its not what hobbies I used to do before I got a bike, more like before the little sprog came along.

I used to play rugby, athletics (javelin), go the gym virtually every day and have endless sex with the (now) Mrs Whosthedaddy Laughing

I was heavily into computers at one time too... mainly chopping, upgrading and modding cases though.
Was also into rally cars and touring car championships at one time, until I saw the light and defected on to two wheels Wink

Used to be into boating. Started off in the saily type thingies with a stick & rags and then progressed to a RIB with 200 horses on the back. Was not used enough and costing too much (1 litre per mile!) so gave that up and got the bike. Should have got the bike sooner.

BTW, well impressed with the upside down 'copter. Am I right in believing that is the one thing a model can do that a real one can't?

I've been around bikes since I was little since my dad is into them, I even had a little italjet 50 when I was 6.
From the age of about 15 I knew I wanted a road bike, so thats when I started reading the mags, but didn't pass my test until 17.

I've always loved cars since being small but they've definitely taken a back seat to bikes (doesn't help that I don't own a car and couldn't afford a fast one yet).

Used to do a lot of jumping / freeridin on me downhill bike.

Used to love going for long offroad rides around my local area, like proper off road stuff thought flooded areas and woodlands etc, and aswell as the long offroad rides i would do a lot of stunting down he local BMX track and at the local jumps.

Was actually getting quite good at it! Unfortunately i only have 1 video left of me riding, and its only a 1 footer off a custom ramp in my back garden...

All my drop off vid's / pictures have been lost somewhere, aswell as my no-footer over the table top at the BMX track Sad

I used to play in a few nu-punk bands and metal bands on my guitar. I did make a vain attempt to skate, which was foiled when i mislanded a pop-shove it and twisted my ankle... again.

Used to keep tropical and marine fish. 3 large tanks in my bedroom as a young'un. Shocked

Once I can buy my own flat I'll be setting up another marine tank. Best bit of decoration you can have in a house, full stop. Expensive and time consuming though.

XC mountain biking. Still do a 24hr race every year but thats about it.

I was just as much into the shiney kit and mechanics as riding it though. I spent years gradually building up about £7k worth of bikes, then got rid of virtually all of them when I realised I wasn't riding them enough and was just buying kit for the sake of it.

Like motorbiking, buying/upgrading can get very addictive.

It's always been about 2 wheels for me Smile

Full size can't no, but a model can. You can get a full +10 to -10 degrees pitch on the collective so can provide full thrust 'up' aswell as down. Add that to the main shaft being 12mm of high tensile steel and it offers more than enough to cope with the umpteen G being pulled. (17-18G is not uncommon)

Scale the model up and the full size would then have a shaft 3 feet thick.. which would inhibit flight somewhat! By comparison the spindly little shaft the real ones do have provents them from doing any 3d, even rolling/flipping to inverted pulls more than 2 G which would bend their shaft Shocked . At most they can 'loop' through illusion. They pull back and climb...then free fall back/flop over the top. This way the machine pulls no G.

It's called 3d as their is no real direction in which you fly in. Here is an example. This is Jason Kraus, one of the top pilots in the world. At the top of the climb at the end he cuts the engine and autorotates down... doing 3d of course Wink :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NT2xWg6JPMo

The World championship is held here in the UK. You need to fly to music.. and need to fly like this to even think about taking part!!

Enjoy Razz
