Weight and height can affect speed and acceleration, so it won't help if you can't duck fully behind the screen (but who can on an NSR?).
Personally, I'd be satisfied with your NSR's current performance as it just gives you more to look forward to when you upgrade. Besides, your bike is already capable of landing you a speeding conviction, so maybe it's a good thing.
Gear the bike for better acceleration and sod top speed. ____________________ TiN

80 is what a UK restricted NSR will do. Maybe 85 with a massive hill
I would assume that there is a restriction in the CDI unit. You could maybe try buying a UK spec. one from a breakers? Or Zimma might have one?
But tin, you can get a speeding conviction with it restricted And its all about will power and self control |

| adie wrote: | I recently purchased an nsr125 from a friend at work. I specifically bought a restricted one so it wouldn't be thrashed to bits. Anyway the bike only managed 65mph tops so it needed sorting. Took exhaust off and no restriction in the the pipe ie 3 welds and a washer. There is no restrictor in the air intake. Frame no. reveals its a French import (restricted cdi unit?). Initially added an Italian spec CDI unit, better response but stopped working after short time. I understand from Honda themselves that CDI unit, harness and powervalve are different on French model to rest of Europe. I've put on an S&B air filter (same as K&N), Nikon race exhaust and rejetted carb from 132 to 142 main jet. The bike is fairly rapid up to 75mph as long as u keep revs above 8k and can crawl up to 85mph. I'm approx 15 stone and imagine bodyweight plays a factor in limiting top speed, however the brit spec bikes see over 100mph. Any suggestions to improve performance ie change sprockets. Interested to know if anyone else has had similar probs or am I the only one who's been stitched by the French. |
You're not the only one mate! My NSR125 is also a French import (or so i believe, is there any definate way to tell!?) I have not tried any de-restrictions yet and it hits 75mph, and crawls to 80.
I checked for the UK restrictions (carb and exhaust) and they were not there, but i have found that the exhaust does have a restrictor ring in it, welded about 5 inches down the pipe (from the head end) just like the one [here]
I've heard all sorts of stories about CDI units, black boxes, powervalves, throttle slides etc etc......
I have found 2 french NSR sites which seem to cover everything, only problem is I cant speak french, and if you run them through the google or babelfish translators they still make no sense
[This] site lists all the standard french restrictions
and
[This] forum is basically the french equivalent of this forum, but just for NSR's.
Let me know if you make any more progress!!
