Being the type that never makes arrangements until the last minute I've just been onto one of the local night clubs websites, normally you pay £5 entry, tonight it's £15! Shocked

For what will essentially be a normal night in there, no doubt drinks prices will be even more ludicrous than they normally are, this coupled with the fact that every taxi driver out there is going to rape you for taking you to and from town this is going to be a fucking expensive night!

bastards.

Yeah its a scandal for sure. They started all that shite around my way on the millenium, some places were charging 50 quid+ The simple answer to it from the locals was to have a party at home.

Thats what we have done ever since, not being part of that piss take anymore. The taxi's do the same, when you get in the meter starts at 6 quid. A taxi that normally costs me £12 cost £25 on boxing day and that was mates rates. Its a joke!

Its been going on forever but it seems to have got more common. A few pubs round here were charging £2 for a new years eve ticket way back in 1983. Doesn't sound much but you could get 4 pints for that back then. Thats the only time that I can recall ever paying to get in. I always avoided pubs with an entry fee from then on. I used to go out most nights and as far as I could see all these people that jam the pubs out only come out on xmas eve & new years eve anyway!. I always thought that you should get in free if you were a regular.
If you dont like it, dont go in. its an easy choice to make.

Ive been made to work again tonight. They are charging £8 for advance tickets and probably more on the door.
Bottles are normally £3.50 each and i think they may be going up to £4 odd.

Going out for a meal shortly, but will be home by about 8pm I guess. Then it's a bottle of wine, a movie and then bed. Probably be awake at midnight, but only because the house isn't soundproof.

For the money it costs to go out tonight Palmer I could go out for 2 or 3 weekends and have damn good nights, ie get completely shit faced.

You claim you don't live off daddys money etc yet you seem to not understand the value of a pound at all, it is far from cheap to go out on new years eve on what is essentially an over hyped night out, if you don't want people making comments about the wealth of your family then don't fish for them.

Twat.

I certainly do, that's why I intend to save my money for something more useful and 'fun' than sharing an expensive bar with a load of sweaty people who are going to drink well past their limits because they feel they have to have 'fun'.

I got that from your 'some people really know how to have fun' bullshit, ever considered that some people might not be able to justify the stupidly high cost?

I dread to think what the taxi costs will amount to.

Some of us have grown up. Despite whatever someone your age thinks, People in their 40's have done it all before you.
Tonight, i'm going to lock the door, have a few drinks as normal, and when i feel tired i'll go to bed, regardless of how early it is. Its just another night and I dont feel the need to go out and be best mates with a stranger i'll probably never see again.
Hopefully the shit weather means that people wont be wandering the streets making a row all night.

I like a good night out but dont see what all the fuss is about on new years eve/day, when all said and done its just another day, nothing outstanding happens just cos the its the 1st of January. If people want to go out thats their choice and I dont have a problem with it but we dont go out on new years eve, I prefer to save my money and go out another time when it cheaper, easier to get a taxi and I dont have to fend off smelly old drunks who want to kiss everyone in the pub Sick

Besides that, finding a babysitter for 5 kids on new years eve is harder than finding rocking horse poo Laughing

Going out on New years and Christmas eve is a pointless exercise in wasting money.

I can go out any of the other weekends in the year and spend a considerable amount less on the same things without pushing to the front of the bar between some sweaty balding bloke and some woman who's spent more hours with a c*ck in her mouth then I've seen sunlight.

Tomorrow will also be relatively quiet so I can get my jogging a maybe a nice quite ride done without much traffic/hassle. Smile

I really cant see the whole hype of the new year thing. If i wasnt working id rather have 2-3 good weekends out than one night which will probably be quite shitty with the upped prices and extra rammed clubs.

I can't really see the point in all the hype either but I don't want to be seen as a boring fart by not going out (i'm 22). What pisses me off is my mates who insist on going to a shite club which charges you to go in.

Luckly a lot of us live in the same area so I'll be sharing a taxi with 4 people.

Oh well lets see how the night pans out and how much lighter my wallet will get.

Happy new year!

Lol I don't normally end up following them in as I usually end up conviving someone else to come with me to a free better club.

*smug*

Where's the fun in going to a nightclub on NYE anyway?

I am sitting in a friends house, surrounded by other friends, loads of alcohol, some really good food and some brilliant music.

My NYE ftw! Razz
