I'm riding to work this morning, first time this year, first time for just over a week.
The Christmas lights are still in the tree's at the side of the road, in the bright daylight they look crap.....not festive and not attractive any more......i thought about what a lovely Christmas i've had with family and friends but as i pulled into work i was then hit with the harsh reality of the day, work = bad mood.

It's 2007, a happy new year.

Well it was a happy new year when i was in the pub dancing with girls and dribbling drink down my favourite shirt, shouting along to 90's dance tracks at midnight, Sunday.

I'm not looking forward to the next few months, trying to claw back that huge amount of cash spent over December.
I've moved out into an unfurnished flat, my rent is steep, council tax is a fucking joke, my 2 stroke cost me a lot to repair and my family has grown.

Every 3 minutes on TV (not that i watch a lot) all i see is figures, %'s and rates....loan sharks....sofa's, bed's, presents you wish you got but you didn't.
It gets me down, i turn off and watch films, but i need more films to stop myself watching TV...... Rolling Eyes

Christmas was a really nice event this year with family, but at 23 years old i really do see what everyone talks about, the consumer nightmare, the constant barrage of adverts and offers everywhere you turn, i find it hard to escape it. It makes me feel in some ways inadequate that my employer hasn't given me more money, i don't want to ask, but i really feel i should be getting paid more.

Sorry for this sort of post so early, i know i'm not alone, but sometimes you do feel that things are against you and all you've done is work hard through the year.

Nowt wrong woth asking for a payrise Killa. If you can show why you're worth more , you might even get it. Sounds like being a grown up just hit home. I wont pretend its fun but it will get better and reisting those "consumer pressures " is one of the skills we all have to learn.

Thats the problem with Christmas/New year. You are fooled into thinking everything is happy and cheery, that everything is great, that its ok to spend into or over your overdraft - afterall its Christmas isnt it?

But then you return to work and the harsh reality of how shite the real world can be actually be hits you.

But then again you can use this moment of percieved clarity to try and order your life, make your decisions and set yourself some goals. I dont believe in New years resolutions, but taking some time to think about what you want to do/achieve/where you want to be is a good thing - without the rose tintedness of Christmas holidays confusing everything.

Its just the back to work blues mate, you will get over it - as for the raise/money situation, Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Chin up mate

I will admit, i have been putting it off as much as i can, i doubt i will ever grow up fully, i can't allow myself to get that serious.
I just wish i could at least sit in my own home and sulk about the state of my finances without it being on the TV every 5 minutes asking me to do something about it. Sad

I know what you're thinking...change the record Killa....but this is unavoidable, especially at this time of year.

The thing is with my job, i don't have anything to show them now that i am worth more, i do my work, i finish to the deadlines and i have recently started college.
But college doesn't finish for two years, so i don't know where i stand.

you've been off work for a while, and have lost the routine.

Yep

It can be crap.

I could go on about my sistuation but I won't.

Mum always manages to convince me that dwelling on the bad only makes things worse for yourself.

Take something you dont like and try and do something posetive about it.

Ermmm, I'm sure you've worked very hard, but I'm more sure that you've posted loads on BCF in your employers time which I don't think counts as working hard.

Ask for a payrise, look for a different job that pays more, or do more work and less slacking off and you might then get a payrise.

What gives you the right to say that Ste?

You always talk like I’m on here all the time, I don’t work much and everything I do in life, I post. You couldn’t be further from the truth.

I get CAD work and other things as a set thing most weeks, I sit down, I have two monitors and most of my two or three line posts do not take up much of my time whilst at work.
I am very quick on computers and don’t get up for chats, coffee and other things to waste time.
I’m here 8 hours a day often more as I do college now on a Monday for 10 ½ hours…….

I could go on, but the truth is Ste….you’re a idiot.

go for it killa, i'm sure i remember reading previous posts you have posted about this type of thing, i'm sure if you present reasonable proof to you employer, they will see your point of view, and sort something out, otherwise you may find your self valued elsewhere...

Ste, everyone has their opinion, but it would be nice to base a comment on a little more than that, mind you, this statement isn't exactly based on facts and evidence, the same principle. Embarassed Cool but you see what i mean. Thumbs Up

At least you got that far.

I had just gone up the slip-road for the M25 when my throttle cable snapped. Spent the rest of the day assing about firstly by trying to fix it on the hard shoulder then trying to get it in a trailer a foot shorter than the bike.

Still, meant I had an extra day off work. Very Happy

As for the rest of it, your a fool for beleiving that crap along with the rest of the population. You do still have a choice in what you do, if you don't want to buy something then don't, simple as.

No, you're not alone mate. We get in to debt and then it's slavery until its paid off. I've learned the hard way too, despite all the warnings I had. 10 years on and I am just about seeing light at the end of the tunnel. I had a lot of laughs and don't regret it, but there comes a point when you have to pay the piper. I have to show a lot of restraint these days, if I haven't got the dough, I can't have it. Has helped no end having a drug free missus.

Consumerism all depends on your view on the world, I suppose. My old 205 will get me to work just as quick as this years 106. When you start seeing all the bollocks for what it is, and that is profiteering from our ego, there's an element of freedom inside your head.

I always thought it was interesting to watch Ray Mears and see people who essentially live in the fucking trees still who are smiling and enjoying their lives. They have nothing. Compare it to the faces on a silverlink train at 07:45.

Wise words there Harold, thanks for that.

I do see the consumerism now, more than ever.

I have been wise to the ways of their working, but finding it so hard to blank it all out.
The worst thing is that your friends, the people that count and make the week worth while, are in the same boat, I hardly see my best mate anymore because they all have to ball and chain it all week.
At the moment, I have reasonable debt, in my eyes….”Any debt is bad”, as a lot of people tell me. But then often they are living with mum and dad on the same wage as me and get spoon fed by them.
I’m going to crack on this year, get proficient in Solid Works, get the dosh and then start cutting that loan down.
