I received this email, I'm not sure how legit this is, I'm sure someone will enlighten me.
Subject: Petition about new travel car tax
Democracy in action?
The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working Mum who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month. On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times.
They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit in time you can probably expect a Notice of Intended Prosecution with your monthly bill.
If you care about our freedom and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website (link below) and pass this on to as many people as possible.

| Korn in his Forum Rules wrote: | Welcome to Bike Chat Forums! Please take a moment to read and remember these rules to make sure your stay with us is a pleasant one.
Thou Shalt Not Spam
Non bike related adverts are not welcome here. However if you have a topical product or service you are welcome to advertise it in the Exchange & Mart section or a special interests section (Supermoto, Racing, etc). Please note, however, that this is a priviledge and posting repeatedly or trying to 'hard sell' your ad may begin to draw flak from other forum users.
Thou Shalt Post in the Correct Section
Please make sure when starting a new topic that you post it in the correct section. If your topic has to be moved by a moderator, your karma rating will suffer. Just because a topic is likely to be seen by more people in a particular section, doesn't mean it belongs there.
* Topics regarding news from the biking world belong in the Biking News forum.
* Questions from newbie riders and "Which bike is for me?" type threads go in the New Bikers bit.
* Mechanical help Qs & As belong in The Workshop.
* "For Sale" and "Wanted" ads belong in Exchange & Mart, unless they are better suited to one of the special interests sections (Racing, Supermoto, etc).
* Topics about events belong in Outings & Excursions, unless the event is a local one and would be better suited to a regional forum section (South East, Scotland, etc).
* Everything else to do with bikes goes here: General Bike Chat.
* Topics related to the forum belong in Feedback, Suggestions, Bug Reports.
* Topics which have nothing to do with bikes should be posted in the Offtopic Chat section.
Thou Shalt Not Abuse Avatars & Signatures
The rules concerning your avatar and sig are set out on the profile page. Please read them and stick to them, otherwise your avatar or signature will be removed and your karma rating will suffer accordingly.
Thou Shalt Not Post NON-PG Material Without Warning
If you want to post a nudie picture or a link to your favourite porno site that's fine, as long as you warn people. People browse this forum from work, and not everybody's boss is as understanding as Hank Scorpio. Please insert NOT WORK SAFE where necessary.
Thou Shalt Learn to Spell
Your writings here are your representation of yourself. If you come across as an illiterate seven year old, you will be treated as one. Please take the time to spell check and proof read your posts, there's no rush.
Thou Shalt Not Ask Pointless Questions
If you have a question to ask, please take a few moments to look through the FAQ section and use the search function. Often you will find that your question has been asked and answered before.
Thou Shalt Try to Fit In
When you're new, things are difficult. You will often find the regulars posting things that you don't understand or cracking jokes that seem completely alien to you. If you try to get to know these people, and not rush into trying for Mr Popular, you'll find you get on with us much better. Hang around a while, come to a meetup or two and you'll soon find yourself one of the gang.
Thou Shalt Not Abuse The Forum
Registering multiple user names or trying to break into other users' accounts are not allowed. Neither is misuse of the relationships / ratings system or other such karma trickery. The mods have seen it all by now and you won't get away with it, so do yourself a favour and don't bother trying.
Thou Shalt Not Post Pointless Petitions
They are a complete waste of time. |

this forum alone may produce enough for a nice new car for Mr three Jags.
eh, did i actually put that?
no chance, not signed up yet, but if others on here do, i will. ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. Get some better happy pills, hit the gym & buy a medallion the size of a dinner plate. Job done |

sorry but nothing can be done about it, other than the fact that Labour will probably be annilated next election time , that said tories will probably do this too.
the pilot scheme will show its flaws , the government will ignore it and say it is a massive sucess.
The in the run up to the 2009 elections , Labour will deny they are doing it people will be suckered in and vote for them again, generally sinc labours key powerbase is the non working dolees, who will be unaffected
win the election again and then introduce it , at which everyworking person wants their vote back. At whoch Gordon will say he has a mandate to introduce 99% income tax. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. So you have a 'Valid' alternative to Labour?
Let's bring the Conservatives back.
Yeh....
Selling off Publicly Owned Utilities so the Old Boys can make a Schilling off the backs of the Great Unwashed.
The very Utilities that could NOT be managed by private ownership 1/2 a century before so the 'Labour' Government had to step in and bail them out. Or we would have starved.
It's not the Labour Government who are to blame. FFS
It's YOU (and the others, yous know who yous are.) people who take Fuk all to do with government until some Pratt puts up a headline.
If you seriously want to make a difference. Go to party meetings. Shout for your rights.
Ticking a box on a T' Internet forum will make them change?
Oh sure Jimmy.
But it's dead easy innit?
I'm not, for a minute, suggesting any form of 'Travel' Tax is a good thing BTW. ____________________ W-ireless A-rtificial L-ifeform L-imited to O-bservation P-eacekeeping and E-fficient R-epair |

yes they do , they cancelled the light rail system extentions in manchester , newcastle and sheffield , at the same time they allowed the companies to increase the cost of fares
AND
Implemented this dumb bus lane policy which reduces capacity by 50% in Salford , Portland Street , Cheetham hill , and soon in Bury , where a 4 lane road is to be turned into a 2 lane road.
AND
Cut back on road maintenance , you should see the main roads around bolton sooo many pot holes , in Bradford/Failsworth too.
You say conservatives sell everything off yup and, sooo whats Labour been doing the last 10 years? , a chunk of the NHS was sold to DHL recently , Yorks/derbyshire a US company has acquired contracts to run GP surgeries , PFI hospitals are property of HSBC , its exactly the same thing just that cus its labour its A OK ,
its like labour sychophants who say ah Davy Cameron went to Eton , oh and Blair didn't go to a posh school eh?.
The thing is with tories we know they are corrupt , while NL seems to be whiter than white , and its always the media's fault when they happen to take bribes , oh I mean donations to their cause, sure tories do this already.
You may say I'm a tory supporter , better the devil you know , ie we know they are corrupt , and we get the deal , ie lower tax for less services , NL have worst of both parts , NAO stats say income tax as a proportion of take home income went up from 17ish % to about 22% , while at the SAME time cutting services. Bury under the tories had two hospitals , it now has one which is soon to be closed.
I'm not saying they'll be better but the longer they are in power the more arrogant they will get , and governments do not listen due to the dual mail box system:
ALL MPs have two mail boxes , they have 1A and 1B , constituents get given the address to 1A , this leads to a paper recycling box , 1B is where all the DVDs and bills are sent to. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. this is so funny , there is no actual debate in such forums , I remember watching one when they were debating (ie going through the motions) about closing another wing of the local hospital (forgetting they closed down 2 hospitals in the last 5 years here) ,
the defence was "your fears are totally unfounded , I give my assurances to this".
Another person said
"I give my utmost assurances"
This is debate at the LOWEST level , you may have noticed me helping out M1KE on another thread, what I say in an essay I back up ,
in political debates , they back up words pretty much with
"because I say so", considering theh have no honour and are generally filth as Siggi eloquently puts it , their assurances are not worth a thing.
its like Clarke , and his stance on ID cards
he said the findings of the LSE were unfounded and he totally did not accept them ,
the LSE were not smart enough to say , please give evidence and research as to why our research is flawed and enter in your counter arguement as , your assurances are not worthy.
research VS his word which'd you take? ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will. In the end, your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching. |

The petition is covered in the Torygraph today - the most popular quality daily in the UK - so it's obviously having something of an effect.
The more people get involved in politics - even in the smallest of ways - the more control they will have over their own lives. ____________________ >Soultrader Mister James, I bet you are a copper

Is tracking of citizens even legal?
Would this be in place of fuel tax?
(not the first ive hered of it but everytime i even think of it, it makes me furious)
If its how its looking like its going to be this will bring the entire country to a halt, it'd be an absoloute catostrophy, not sure what derranged world politician live in but i know i'll not be able to work without a car, the unemployment rate would be going up a fair old bit!
If eveyrone decided to get pulic transport to work tomorrow morning it'd be like world war 3 or comunist east germany..
What needs to and i susupect would happen would be an act of mass civil dissobediance, i.e. telling them to stick their tracking devices up their ass.. not as if theres any space in prisons. ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

Hehe, i posted this somewhere in 'Found on the net' or 'Random Banter'
But i don't mind, i'm glad its been brought back up for discussion (this area is viewed more than the others anyway i think)
Isn't it against civil rights, privacy laws to track us and see exactly where we go?
What if some geezer wants to go to a brothel....the goverment can see that to? Bit shitty if you ask me.
I'll leave the debate to Itchy and who ever wants to challenge him |

Itchy, Itchy, Itchy..
It will make no difference who is in 'Power'.
Conservative, Liberal, Labour, Monster Raving, Tell Tubbies and or the What Have Yous.
Any Government needs money which has to come from somewhere.
The Government are Human so behave as such. Lie Steal Cheat.
One man's Butter is another man's Margerine/Lowfat Spread.
We have this vague perception of 'Choice' in our leaders among democracies.
What each party can do with things and vice versa.
Makes no difference.
The only thing we MUST maintain is the right to change.
Not sure if that is now a right as I think we have to pay for it somehow.
But let not Change for the Sake of it.
Then another bunch of Numpties will phaph about upsetting things until we're fed up wif them aswell.
One thing we could do is be more Proactive and Sack the fat, lazy, useless Bastds when they mess-up, get caught knobbing the secretary, or with a hand in the cookiejar.
Still think 'Travel' Tax is pish though.
Years ago people would laugh at you if you asked them to pay for Tap water. Ha ha ha ha... ____________________ W-ireless A-rtificial L-ifeform L-imited to O-bservation P-eacekeeping and E-fficient R-epair |

its why I highly advocate a public assassination market , or starship troopers federalism of citizenship non citizens cannot vote citizenship has to be earned. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Overly cynical views like those in the two posts above are the real reason why 'nothing changes'. That, and the fact that Mankind is almost exclusively made up of grasping tossers. You all make out that it is just Police and Politicians that are greedy and corrupt, when in fact it's plain to see that most of us, given the chance, would enrich ourselves at the expense of others, or give our own opinion precedence for no apparent reason.
If you don't take part, your views aren't heard, and things don't change. People like Blair and Brown weren't born into their positions of power, they struggled for them, and have done much to push forward their view on how the country should be run - rightly or wrongly. ____________________ >Soultrader Mister James, I bet you are a copper

Speak for yourself. I like to think we each set our own individual standards. |
Of course we do.
That doesn't detract from the fact that, on the whole, we are a very selfish species.
For example, I like to consider myself a fairly pleasant chap. I help people when I can, I stand by my friends, and I've saved several lives in my line of work - surely things to be proud of.
On the other hand, I'm sitting here in a leather chair, chatting to you lot on a PC that millions of people wouldn't even understand - much less own, a stone and a half overweight from all the expensive junk food I've not been able to run off since my crash, 2 mobile phones on my desk, 2 bikes in the carpark, etc.
I'm not trying to say that I'm rich, just that my charity has its limits - and for most of us, those limits tend to focus mainly on maintaining our comfortable lifestyle rather than sorting out the vast majority of the world's population worse off than us. ____________________ >Soultrader Mister James, I bet you are a copper
