Yes and no, not from progressive throttle.

But if you close it then snap it open again in first gear then probably.
They'll clutch up if you absolutely have to, but they don't really lend themselves to wheelies.

You can downgear by getting a 1tooth smaller front sprocket from banditmania for about £12 I think, that should improve matters.

Almost possible, but it would be shit in any case.

Best I have gotten so far and Rookie can testify that it was shit was to go to 8,000 RPM in 1st and then just yank the throttle back, however the front wheel gets flighty, at most.

Yeah, I've only managed to get the front wheel to skip along the ground dodgily from hard acceleration.

No way, Bandit restricted will no way power wheely, you can clutch wheely in 1st or sometimes 2nd on a 33BHP Bandit, but most of the power on the Bandit comes in at about 7,000 RPM, way after the threshold of the restrictors.

LMAO, my bike is 7 years newer than yours with a smooth gearbox and aftermarket exhaust and was definately restricted, it won't do it.

Seriously, the different of 33BHP and 70+BHP is alot.

Sorry for reviving an old thread,

I just got back from a little ride, tonight i decided i should try to learn to wheelie my new bandit 6 (always used to excuse that the GS500 was not powerful enough... or would fall apart),

It will only seem to power wheelie with a pillion onboard Wink...

I tried using the clutch to varied results, accelerating gently to about 15 mph (around 4k revs in first) then snap it closed and at same time flick in clutch and whack open the throttle while dumping the clutch, 90% of the time i just got the front to go very light, then strangely enough a car full of chavs pulled along side in amusement at me blasting away then braking...

Anyway i really went for it (with foot over rear brake) and popped what seemed like a medium high one, so the front most lilkely JUST came up, but it felt good nonetheless, held that untill first ran out, so about a second or two... then another couple before some red lights, was in the zone for a bit, then i couldent do it like that for the rest of the ride. I think i just need to learn to be more agressive in dumping the clutch, im trying to feather it whereas it seems to need a more violent release...

Im just looking forward to drier roads so i can really practice and get this down... i had to keep trying when i got to a dry patch on the road...

I doubt i will be out wheeling everywhere when i learn, but it would be nice to be able to on demand..

Downgeared they don't power wheelie.

Restricted they definately will not.

Well, speaking from experience, however I was only -1 on the front.

Certainly was a bit more lively, but wouldn't "power" wheelie.

Would clutch up alot easier though.

Well -1 on the front is downgearing yes, but to get such a heavy brute to power wheelie there's downgearing and there's downgearing!

The wheelie school use bandit 600s downgeared to buggery. I'd say that speaks volumes.

You'll have to clutch it up. Because it won't come up under power alone.

Banditmania sell a 1 tooth smaller front sprocket which will benefit acceleration at the expense of a bit of top end.

May also cause issues with your chain.
But they can be wheelied, they're just not perfect.

It might be useful to use small square timber or small pipe to help front wheel start going up. I saw it in a video of trial practise.

He is Trial Rider of honda, lectures frontup in below video.

Terrifying Neutral Eh? Hand

I often did it with a bicycle. Used a gap and stepped down the pedal and did wheelie. I can do wheelie on bicycle but not on bike yet Sad

I found the link.
https://offbike.com/ritech_net/video/rough-stair-log-a3-bb.wmv

ah no. this is too huge.
I want to try... put a small thing (1or 2 inch height) on the road,
run the bike toward it slowly, at the moment front tyre step on the thing, if I let the clutch out, isn't it easier to start wheelie?

find a quiet place, with a lip in the road/ really low curb thingys and try it of that, thats what i used to do on my fiddy and 125.
or coming onto a speed hump, when the front wheel touches, clutch it, the wheel wont stay up as, as soon as the rear wheel hits the hump it will come back down (violently if you do it to rough)

More often than not using somthing to bring the wheel up will scare the living shit out of you, and it could end badly due to being totaly uncontrolled..
just keep doing shitty wheelies, get a feel for the bike, and use the rebound of the forks and your weight more.

dont try get too big too soon, get a feel for the front end going light, and landing it correctly.

Using speed bumps, I'd recommend doing the wheelie as the rear wheel comes down. Ideally, big long speed bumps.

However if you want to do wheelies, use the clutch. Pretty ridiculous not to, really.

Neutral you all scare me. No seriously.

Lets try and learn how to get the front wheel up by rolling over a lump of word, or a pipe and dumping the clutch...

Right.

So what happens when the back wheel hits it?

As has been said, speed bumps maybe. But they are usually slippery and ive known people bin the bike dumping the clutch on the lip and just punting it sideways as the front was too unsettled to help.

I used to launch my goose for little ones off of badly made descent from a bridge that dropped a good foot within a foot of road. If you dumped the clutch in first just as the front crested it (either way really) it would come up abit, but it was completely uncontrolled, and a couple of times it REALLY came up.

Kawashima, you appear to have a japanese version of a harley (i cant be arsed to check), this IS NOT the bike to learn wheelies on.

Slow ones will be very unstable, and i doubt its got the power to lift the quite front heavy design at higher speed.

As for the bandit, i reckon it could power wheelie off a speedbump, i just would seriously suggesting leaving it until its drier and you have more grip, or there will be tears before bedtime.

Sorry if im preaching, but theres nothing more terrifying then people who cant/wont/dont wheelie giving advice on how to wheelie, because they remember some long gone conversation with someone possibly on the subject... maybe.

This photo changed my mind.. but W650 isn't proper bike to practise wheelie.

(This photo is in this site full of bike reviews)
