Hi,

I'm 27, Male, from Leeds and currently saving up for a 5 day DAS course. Apparently i'm a natural. Shocked

I've been into bikes for over 20 years and only this year found out about the offroad schools and try-out days. Evil or Very Mad

2 Months ago I did my CBT and Theory test (with great ease) and I'm hoping to do the rest in March or April as I can't get time off work till then.

I don't have a bike yet as I have nowhere to put one. I have not had any support for getting my Licence or do many of my friends share the same passion as I. Almost everyone thinks i'm crazy!!!!!

So, after searching on the net, I landed on this forum and for about a month i've been reading everything with interest. I'm interested in making friends with like-minded people and eventually finding a trail/green laning club in Leeds.

Hey good luck with your DAS. It's a very good course. I too have no one that shares the same interest and my parents are not really impressed (although Mum is OK), it's been hidden a bit from my Dad.

Good luck.

Welcome to the BCF Stelmer and crossed fingers for your DAS.

I had my first bike when I was 16, mam used to worry while I was out but she was very proud of me and the fact that I was the only girl in Derby at the time that rode a bike, and I mean ride it..... I had a 125 Yamaha twin carb and for a 125 it certainly nipped around.

GJ Thumbs Up

Both my parents have no idea that I'm doing my road license. I've got all the excuses ready for when I do my DAS Mr. Green

Ooer. Someone else in Leeds. With a bike. Don't feel so lonesome now! I don't know anyone else up here who rides; all me two-wheeled chums are in Northampton - incidentally where my olds are, and bloody good job too. They'd lock me away and melt the key.

Good luck with the DAS Very Happy

Ah... perhaps more haste and less speed with my reading! Very Happy

Mine got a new coat for Christmas. She looks like a turkey roasting in bacofoil. It's just screamin out for the local chavs to take a peek.

Good luck with the DAS...

I have had no support either going in for my licence either... I wanted to start at 17 but both mum and dad have frowned upon it... at 21 I thought about doing but again got moaned at... so at 23 I booked my CBT and only told my parents the day I was going...

I am big enough and definately ugly enough to make my own decisions... plus it will more than halve time going to work... plus in the long run it will be cheaper than using the car Smile

Same story here. My folks wouldn't hear of it for years and years so I just forgot about it. Then I got to 28 and thought "why the hell not?" and did a DAS course. One of the best things I ever did. Enjoy your DAS (despite the stress of an impending test, it really is fun) and enjoy a long, safe and fun riding career too.

Always mental!!

No scars, and is very hard too prove anything!

I always thought of getting an unloaded gun putting it to the chav's head (one trying to steal my bike) then making him dig his own grave! ahahahaha.....

or have a blank round in, stand back few feet then scare the fuck out of 'it'. LOL

If worst come to worst, a cricket / hockey bat will do the trick!!

Ok, so i went bit over top there!!!

Hello and welcome. i'm Dave i live in silsden (skipton) near bradford! so aint too far away! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Oohh, it's nice to know that i'm not the only one who has no parental support. I'm thinking of telling them by just turning up to my house on a loud harley (or something similar) in summer. their look would be priceless. Mr. Green

I've booked my DAS for 5 days over 3 weeks in March with the same training organization that I did my CBT with, Roadrunners.

In the meantime I might sell my car as I have a company one and don't want 2 cars. (And a bike in the future.)

Ooh it's refreshing to see such rebellion!

One of my Christmas presents said 'don't open in front of the folks' on the label. I was expecting to find some dodgy undies with holes in funny places or a bloody rampant rabbit or summat. It was my noo bike cover! At least I could laff the others off... Mr. Green

Lol Mr. Green

I've just bought a Spyke Typhoon jacket from Ebay for £75+p&p. I'm dreading the ''oohh what was that parcel Stephen?'' question.

Getting it to my car for my DAS will be interesting............ Confused

Ah... now you see I have the luxury of living 130 miles away from my parents. It made getting my jacket and helmet out to the car without being seen a lot easier Wink

I kinda made a huge mistake in getting a car on finance 2 years ago. I doubt i'll be able to move out until the repayments end in November 2009.

However, I am looking into mortgages as a way of getting several birds with one stone. Mr. Green

Forget the parents!

You try keeping it from your wife and kids. It was a nightmare trying to arrange a cbt and theory test without them being aware. I got caught a couple of times in the garden making secret arrangements to view a bike etc.

Just could not take it anymore and had to confess my sins and admit that I had bought a bike, the lovely lady gave me a right bollocking and is insisting that I finish all projects DIY, after then and only then will I be in a position to ride the bike.

I''m booking a DAS for end of March, so only have 2 rooms left to strip, replaster, paint, lay floor, coving and much more....

Got to go, I can hear footsteps....

Surprised

5 years ago I was planning on doing my CBT but I was found out and my parents weren't very happy Neutral

A year ago I went to one of those off road schools and told my parents. I was surprised by how different their reaction was.

I've been twice since and i'm sure deep down they know what will come next Mr. Green

I learned to ride on a motocross tryout day. Brilliant fun. It was a 2006 KX125. I've also been on the Yamaha one and tried the WR250 and 450. (Avatar WR250)

Nice bikes. A world away from that horrid CG125 thing that I did my CBT on. Mr. Green

I do like the enduro/supermoto bikes. When I pass my DAS in March i'll might start saving for one.

ive had a go on an offroad track (not a proper motocross one )at the nec with their bikes

i tried a wr450, a 250 4 stroke, and a 125 2 stroke motocross bike kawasaki (quite possibly the kx125)

the 125 2 stroke was the most fun as its so agile, but at the end it stopped and i cdnt get it started again

but i got an 250 4 stroke enduro for low maintenance

I have a question:

I have held my car license for 9 years. I have the full 12 points.

On passing my DAS would I go down to 6 with the new driver restriction?

I was told when i got mine that car/bike are seperate in terms of points.

So points on one/limits on one wouldnt affect it.

Hello by the way Thumbs Up

And you married her?

No offense, but I just told my wife and I let her do her thing and she me.

And I do have kids also.

I really can't understand these posts about people afraid to tell relatives about having a bike. I can understand them not being interested, but thats it.
