Hi all,

I woke up at 8:30 this morning ready to goto lectures... i found out that they were canceled, and seeing blue sky for the first time in a while i randomly decided to goto wales for the day...

The girlfriend was not up for it so it was a solo adventure... Followed the A40 most of the way there (was having lunch in Abergavenny by 12 ish..) then ended up spending the afternoon hooning around on lovely twisties...

Pushed a bit too hard on one corner considering the sometimes damp roads today and very very nearly lost the front, had the front sliding away, just managed to pick it back up and had a little moment to myself then carried on, by about 3:30 ish the roads were starting to get busy with the commuting traffic, so just blasted all the way back to london on the M4 from Cardiff...
The rain held off, it was a nice little trip, did just under 500 miles.

Which brings me to my question, do you regularly or have you ever impulsively gone on an impromptu ride?

Have done a couple of times last year, just went out for a ride and decided to go and get lost.

Started on Brighton sea front about 5am, ended up sitting on Newquay beach about 7 hours later.

Going on an impromptu ride is something I'm always planning to do, but I can never quite make it.

I'm thinking of taking one this coming weekend if the weather is good. I'll let you know what happens.

LOL Cortez

Seriously though, it seems any of my mates who ride that i speak to about doing a long-ish ride , want to plan every detail, routes, dates, fuel stops, sights to see along the way... Fuck that

I am planning to go down through france and hopefully to spain or italy in the summer, i know the bandit 6 isnt the best touring bike, but it will do. Im just thinking i might as well go alone, just take a map of west europe, a tent, money and just go... For me all the planning takes half the fun of the adventure away. Thoughts?

Don't sweat it, we've all got a bit lost at one time or another and had to invent a cover story...

I've seen myself sometimes go out with the intention of returning in half an hour and end up at the other side of the country. Always a nice thing to do.

It was not any conscious action, happened very quickly, can only describe it as an unimaginably strong urge not to crash Smile.

My left arm was sore for a few hours? maybe active counter-steering? who knows... I'm fuckin glad i dident stack it, I ordered Crash Bars and Goodrich brake lines a couple days ago, haven't got them yet. Shocked

This summer the Katana and I shall be exploring Wales and England together. Might go with a mate and a tent up to Scotland or something.

The ZXR shall remain in the garage (or possibly someone elses garage) feeling sorry for itself for being too small and unreliable.

Anyone know If I can legally ride in Europe at the moment? I am 17 (18 on the 26th Jan) on a full (<33bhp) licence. Love to ride down to Spain or something.

I've ridden in France on my 33BHP licence.

Didn't get any problems. Apart from the company that was hiring my bike (after I got knocked off Evil or Very Mad ) ringing me up on the ship.

I wasn't allowed to take it abroad, so that was fairly awkward Razz

I think the accepted technique is to grip the saddle firmly between both buttocks while dilating your anus to the size of an standard GPO manhole cover and repeating the mantra "ohfuckohfuckohfuck". Then pick the whole bike up off the road using this grip and put it back down again on both wheels. If there isn't a crease going lengthwise along the saddle, you weren't gripping hard enough. Next time, stop by J13 services on the M4. See if there's some guy in the shop called Karl - usually stood around pretending to be busy. I'll join you for a coffee and a quick bite to eat (free, of course) if it's not too busy..

I normally decide on "impromtu" rides the night before. Come up with a plan whilst trying to get to sleep, reset my alarm clocks to get up early, wake up at the crack of dawn to get out my roadmap and decide where exactly I'm going. More often than not though, I oversleep and wake up around midday Sad

Didn't plan my 5k mile tour of Spain. Didn't plan my 18.5k tour of Europe other than deciding which direction I was gonna do it in (originally was thinking of clockwise loop, but ended up more like a figure of eight).

I re-read this a couple of times, and decided against trying to explain the difference between "impromptu" and "planning", before I realised you weren't serious. Embarassed This is because I couldn't see the smirk on your face as you were typing.

Please could you add "Joke" to all similar posts in future... Laughing

The general "funny" rating should have given it away Razz

Even I do the touring thing on the fifty, only trouble is once i'm bored I suddenly realise I'm miles from home and getting back at 55mph all the way will be long and arduous Sad

Hi. Last August on one sunny saturday morning after having some breakfast and taking the dog for a short walk, I decided fuck it. I'm off to the Dales for the day. Spent around 6-7 hours just fucking around on the most amazing roads I've been on so far. Don't know if I'd want to go as far as Wales/Scotland like you did. Laughing Cool
