Boots with thick soles. - seat height - new bike whoes

Bit of strange one on my new bike I can't flat foot with my Alpine Stars on, but I can more or less with my dog walking boots.

I couldn't figure it, until I looked at the alpine stars, the soles at the tip are like 5mm thick, whereas the hiking boots are nearer 20mm.

I can remember a post about this a while back, but it didn't affect me at the time.

I remember someone mentioning a bike boot which was good for this.

Can anyone remember/recommend?

Or does anyone have a lower seat for a Z750s for sale.

The thing that's really weird, is that the ER5 has a seat height of 800mm, the Z750s 805mm, whereas I can flat foot both feat and bend them on the ER5.

It doesn't make sense, the seat height of the Z750s clearly isn't right or the ER5 was already lowered, (it doesn't have the low seat), but its got hagon shocks??

It's not all about height, the Z750 seat is probably wider than the ER which means you'll loose some height from ya legs which is why you can't flat foot on the Z... more than likely anyway.

get your seat shaved if its such an issue,but you dont really need your feet flat.

It is the width of the Z750 that takes away the length of your legs, im only short at 5'6 so i found it a bit strange at first but its alright now, you'll adjust over time i wouldnt worry too much.

I'm 5'8" but my legs are short, well I think they are cos the wife is like 5'6 and has 2" longer legs than me.

Can anyone remember the boots?

The alpines are like slippers they don't give you any more height.

I can't say I've ever measured them because I didn't buy them for height, but my Daytona's have quite a think sole unit compared to my Alpinestars. They are on the pricey side though.

I'm sure you'll just get used to the height difference anyway, it's just a confidence thing.

The Daytona 'M-Star' boots have a higher sole. I can highly recommend Daytona boots in general. I've never had any probs with them.

I wear my rock boots on the bike it gives me an extra few inches, the Tuono is a bit tall. I can only get my toes on the ground with my para boots. So it helps me, but dont know how they would look on a bloke

You could try a thicker sole. Timpsons will put a Vibram sole on a boot for about 60 quid. Not at all cheap and it may look wierd on modern boot.
I use old Frank Thomas boots with five side straps and a Vibram sole. Modern boots are no use on old bikes, the kickstarter splits the sole in a couple of months of use.

Why do you need to flat foot the bike? I find that the more riding experience I get the less I am worried about having both feet on the ground and since you ride a Z750 I guess you have a fair amount of experience.

Hi the Z750S is my 3rd bike.

My first a CG (2 months), then an ER5 (still got it) and now a Z750S (got it for a good winter price).

To be honest the Z isn't doing too much at the moment, (its waiting for spring) as i'm using the ER to commute on. The Z going to be my evening/weekend bike for the nicer months.

I've done a few things on the Z, its got R&Gs on it, i've got an abbastand for it, the hugger has just come, but I need a bellypan.

My ER has a speed camera detector and I don't know if i'm going to buy another one for the Z or take the one off the ER.

Saying that if Insurance proves expensive to keep both, I might have to sell the ER, which I don't really want to.

You lucky so and so! I sold my GS500 to buy the Z750s although I wanted to keep it as backup.
I would love to have the courage(and money) to even ask the missus if I can have 2 bikes. I would probably get an SM of some kind to have along side the Z like a Suzuki D-RZ400SM, Honda FMX650, Yamaha XT660X or an Aprilia Pegaso 650 or ..... lol

Yeah i'd like to keep 2 bikes.

I stopped last winter and started in March and haven't stopped, except for when waiting for bike parts.

ie I waited a week for piston seal.

Thats the problem with bikes, 95% of problems on a Mondeo can be sorted out within a day, part vans going up and down etc. Whereas on a bike.....

Thats why having 2 sounds like a better idea.

Don't get me wrong I have a car but only 1 in the household and thus the wife uses it mostly, kids to school, her work etc. Thus I'm normally on the bike.

I refuse to ride on ice/snow etc

I also like the ER because of its fuel economy, I know its sad, but its soo good. Also I can ride it to its absolute limits.
