I'd appreciate all the help i could get. I just bought my first bike, its a Honda NSR 125. The only problem i have at the moment is the fuel tap. I bought it nearly empty and only filled 4.xx liters in it because the bike wouldn't take no more. After fair amount of miles, it chocked and died. Fortunately, a filling station was close so i didnt have to drag the bike. After topping it up with fuel, it only filled 4.xx litres ... am i just running off the reserve ? Can anyone tell me how to position the fuel tap correctly. Thanks

hmm cant seem to find the info anywhere but if i remember correctly (and please correct me if i got it backwards) its :-

Up - ON
Horizontal - OFF
Down - Reserve

I think there is either an arrow/bar on it indicating the direction, or its conical shaped and the thinner end is the indicator.

Again thats a semi-remember semi-guess.

more or less right

as you are sitting on the bike, turn the tap towards yourself for on and away from yourself for reserve..

Definetly doesnt sound right, no more than £3-4 in one tank when i swear it was about 15ish at least for full from empty.

Maybe post in the workshop section?
My only guess is if you have it running on reserve and thats all your using so everytime you fill it up your just filling the reserve you've used and its not draining the main tank but thats a guess. Maybe someone who knows for sure will answer?

If you bought from a dealership then drop in with it and ask, worst case scenario you look a bit silly but if there is a genuine problem they should sort it out. If private then contact the seller and ask?

(Seems 'Honda NSR Fuel Tank Capacity' doesnt produce much worthwhile results in google)

I have this exact same problem on my YBR 125, its nearly empty but only fills up about a fiver's worth when it's meant to hold 10 litres or so. I switch the fuel tap to off, should I?

Tank Capacity is 13 litres, i think as above you are probably just topping up the reserve, costs me about 10-12 quid to fill up.

Try using the tap as said in my post and then when it empties completly full tank then fill up it should be about 13 litres as i said.

i went down to the filling station and filled up 4.xx litres ( My tap was set to reserve ). Paid the nice man at the counter and returned to my bike. This time i turned the tap to ON position and started pumping gas again .... believe it or not i filled up another 3.23 litres. Try it with your bike. Am i the only one who thinks this was weird ?

My bike does about 100-150 a tank, its derestricted so may be different but when i hit 120 miles i fill it up, makes about 8 quid of fuel to go in.

lebwear,

its a different for the ybr, you have to put the feul tap the the down position for on, up for reserve and in the middle for off.

when you use the reserve, remember to top it up....

and when you refill why do you change the feul tap to the middle? at a guess it could cut off the supply, i dont know, i havnt seen one off before.

saying that, my ybr takes about £5 from half full. and remember, warm petrol expands, dont be surprised if you go out riding for an hour, top up, and then the next morning it isnt quite full Wink

'Reserve' is just a position on the tap allowing a pipe with a lower cut off than the 'main tank' to let fuel flow through.

If you had it on reserve, it would use the full tank of fuel rather than just a few litres.

Without actually looking at the bike, I can offer no further help - sorry. Maybe get a mate who knows a little more about bikes to look at it?

Good luck Thumbs Up

^^^^ Agreed

It could be the way your filling it up, don't forget because it's on an angle if you don't angle the pump in the more empty bit you won't get a full fill out of it. Are you filling it right up to the little disk thing with a notch or 2 in?

Everything sorted guys .... Thanks for all the posts ! My bike now filles with a total of 11 litres of petrol every time ( i dont really let it as low thou ). The best solution for me was to keep the tap on ON position all the time.

PS: fill it up right to the nob ... Once again thanks for all the help ... Laughing
