 |

Hi All,
I just got myself one of these (NS125R-K, well two, one is used for spares), I paid £255.00 for the two in total.
I rebuilt one from the parts of the other one and now need to find out some info.
The bike splutters at 4500 - 5200 rpm, before and after this area of splutter the bike runs fine, does anyone know if this is ment to splutter like this ? When I had my MBX125FE about 12 years plus ago I never noticed this splutter !
The other thing I have noticed is that the bike smokes alot (blue/white smoke) at high reves (6000 +) is this right ?
One other thing -- where are all the sites on the NS125 ? I can find sites based on the NSR125, but not the NS125 !
Ian.
UK insurance --- What a ripoff -- Best place I found was https://www.mitch.co.uk -- Third Party F/T £188.00 give or take a few pence.

Hi Robby,
Yes, mine is also red....
De-Restrict it, thats easy, it's the same engine that the MBX125FE uses so is easy to de-restrict.
1a/ Change the exhaust for a Nikcon / Micron.
1b/ Take off the original exhaust and remove the restrictor plate in the exhaust (drill it out) and fit a new can / silencer (Micron / Nikon) on the other end of it.
2a/ Re-jet the carb and change the needle, and add new air filter.
2b/ Change the reeds for new race reeds and remove the re-strictor plate in the reeds assembly if it has one.
3/ Change the front drive gear to give the bike more top end in 4 - 6th gear (makes the low end gears slow on pull away), and change the drive chain for a new race one.
4/ Remove the blanking plate on the ATAC (found on the right side of engine just below the thermistat).
5/ This is a must if you want to stop the darn thing, upgrade the brakes (front and rear).
Once all this is done you should be able to get 100 - 115 mph out of the bike, but it will drink fuel like there is no tomorrow.

www.motorcycledirect.co.uk

The stock NS exhaust works very well once the restrictor is taken out. Think DEP used to make a good silencer for the stock exhaust. Microns work OK, but sound really tinny

Definatly rejet if you have been playing around. The NS airbox is quite restrictiev and a K&N style filter does work quite well if you can put up with the down side (noise and problems when it gets wet)

Not worth touching the reeds. They are fibre reeds as standard and work fine

Not much you can do here. The NSR ATAC system worked off centrefugal force, to open / close a chamber on the side of the barrel depending on revs. To fit this to a UK model would require a fair few parts. In UK models there is a blanking plate fitted that leaves the chamber on the side of the barrel open perminatly, which is the low revs situation. If you blank the chamber off you will get slightly more top end power, but may not be worth it for the loss in low down power

On the clock maybe, but then they would indicate 85 when restricted while barely managing 70 in reality. True top speed will be around 90~95mph.
All the best

Yes..... I know this, but the basics are the same. The MBX also had the ATAC as well even if it was not enabled.
| Kickstart wrote: | Do you have the standard exhaust on it? What else has been done? |
Standard exhaust with restrictor plate removed, rejet in the carb. I also have a Nikon as a spare. As for anything else, not to sure what the last owner did, but it moves fast, had 93mph out of it on Sunday up at Biggin Hill (flat road and not down hill before you ask).
| Kickstart wrote: | White smoke is normally steam, which would suggest a gasket leaking. Blue smoke is oil. Possibly just needs the oil pump adjusting and a bit of use |
White / Blue smoke .... it's not white as in steam as I am not having to top up the cooling system, I checked this out already !
Oil pump, yes, I think this needs to be looked at as there is a small build up of oil in the tail end of the exhaust at the moment.
