Well it didn't take me long bought my bike on saturday not a scratch on it ace condiction, rode it home, went out on monday on it, though would go for a quick trip to the shops after work did the shopping pulled of in car park sore a small child about to cross the road went wide around her and hit a man hole cover, and slap down i went sliding down the road, hart sinking with every inch i slid, after about 5 -10 metres came to a stop and with some help from some kind bystanders to get bike up and into a space, had a look at the bike scratched wing mirror, scrapped bar end to buggery and cracked and front case of the engine (think it the gearbox) and scratched exhaust now really worried what internal damages may have been done was only doing 10mph such a pig, moral of the story avoid man hole covers in car parks prob the most slippery around !!!

p.s. anyone got any sugestion on what i should check.

400, 600 or 1200?

If it's the six, and it's an early one, check it hasn't bent the pillion peg hanger, which is part of the frame.

Gutted for you mate Sad

Although you should watch out for manhole covers no matter where you are. doing 25 around a corner and having the rear end slide out on one is a real eye opener.

As its a bandit you should be able to get hold of parts quite easily. Make sure that the frame is ok first. The engine shouldn't be too bad, hopefully its just the covers that need replacing.

Have a look at what you need parts wise and try here first
https://www.bike-breakers.info/, getting parts from bike breakers can save you a lot of money. Check how much things are brand new first.

Doubt there is any internal damage at all mate, you'll jsut have to replace the engine casing with an undamaged one which shouldn't cost a lot at all, second hand.

Happens on all bandits that go down. Get some engine bars to prevent it happening again. Thumbs Up

Plenty of crash-spares out there for the bandit 6.

You can even buy aftermarket, heavy-duty side covers made by a company called NRC motorsports. Lots of people use bandits for stunting so it is really common to break them. The NRC ones will cope with two or three fairly big offs before you need to replace them.

Its the cover, signal generator part number #11381-26D10, check here to make sure https://www.alpha-sports.com/suzuki_parts.htm as i don't know your year bike i've based it on an 1999 model and then if you want original part get it from here https://www.robinsonsfoundry.co.uk/shop/index.php/parts/index.html just put the correct part number in the search box, usually next day delivery if you order before 2pm and its in stock.

If not engine bars how about crash bungs? Don't look so obtrusive but are worth every penny IMO.

Hi

Other than the silencer suspect the bits you have damaged should be cheap. The covers are often fairly cheap, although I am surprised how cheap that one is from the post a bit above. Bar end will be cheap. New bars (probably bent the originals) should be cheap (or get some from someone who has decided to fit Renthals). Can will be some hideous cost. Mirror will cost about £40 at a guess.

All the best

Keith

Every bandit has a scuff on that bit. It's character adding.

This is a good excuse to buy a race can. Beware of bandit 600 crash bungs, they're the ugliest feckers EVER.

And more expensive than most too.

(crappy phone camera picture alert! (You can also make out my scuff :B))

10W40.

I use cheap Tesco stuff. But get whatever you feel happiest with. In a 10 year old bandit 600 I aint spending any more than I have to.

i use shell advance VSX in my 1999 bandit and it gets done every 2k miles religiously (it has 11k miles on now) change the plugs every 4k and a full service (including valve clearences) every 6k miles, yeah over the top i know but prevention is cheaper than the cure

(and im a apprentice mechanic so i get parts for next to fuck all Very Happy but oil + filters ARE NOT expensive)

I wouldn't be so sure, 'the cure' for a 99 bandit is either a £100 engine off eBay or a new (old) bandit for £800.

I've probably saved £800 by not doing it that often/using cheaper stuff. (Probably not £800).
