Okay... really sorry to be morbid here...
I have been riding since July (passed in September), and am wondering why the hell I didnt get into it 20 years ago with the sheer joy I am getting from it.

Been reading this forum and enjoying most of it, but it seems that most people have had some sort of accident...

Is there anyone who has been riding for any length of time that has stayed accident free? And I mean accident rather than just dropping your bike at low speed/stationary.

The nearest I came was sliding on a muddy left hander on an empty road and ending up on the opposite verge - which could have been nasty in traffic (although I knew it was empty and was giving it some... Smile

)

learnt the hard way.Had an inexperienced crash when i was 18 which was a biggy and bad but kept my nose clean for the past 11 years touch wood.

This is probably going to sound stupid but i feel you dont fully appreciate the dangers of falling off/crashing until you do Crying or Very sad

35 years ridding and accident free!
Actualy 35 years and smashed myself up quite a few times, you sort of get used to it and you and the receptionist at A&E just get older together.

Hey,
6 years of riding and one accident. A bloody cyclist knocked me off, knackered my nicely restored bike, and then sued me for it (Still on going) Crying or Very sad

Havent had an off (or even dropped a bike) and been riding since 1990, with a 5 year gap, so actually 12 years. My old man has been riding since the 60's and also hasnt had an accident. I'd consider myself a careful rider. I dont take silly risks, although I used to in my younger days, but I realise that I've also been very lucky. Also never had a car accident and been driving the same amount of time.

Hope I'm not tempting fate....off to find lots of wood now.

Loads of accidents when I was on smaller bike. One big one on a 750 but that was still about 15 years ago.

I've come off a couple of times in those 15 years but they have been stupid low speed stuff with, at worst, maybe a broken mirror and dented pride.

For me its been the improvements in tyres, protection and handling thats made the difference.

Passed my driving test in 1989, my DAS in 2005
Only ever had two accidents in those 17+ years - one which was my fault, due to inexperience in 1989, and the other in 1999 was a rear end shunt when I was stopped at a junction.

I'm still free and clear as far as the bike is concerned, and I intend to do everything I can to keep it that way. Karma

It does happen but its like anything, more time u spend doing something the more likely a bad situation might happen. Especially when your on your first few small bikes, little experiance and your not riding the worlds most expensive bikes...

Didnt someone on here once say that the 'average' rider has 1.5 or something accidents? or am i imagining that?

Been riding just over a year. No accidents as of yet (almost pulled out into the path off a bus today while filtering though. Good job I looked before pulling out to filter again!).. But ive made a few silly mistakes that have put me on my ass. Aslong as you learn by them you'll be alrite Smile

Doesnt matter how good of a rider you are though sometimes its purely the other idiots on the road. I know a guy who has been riding prob around 20 years and recently had his first accident. The guy is an instructer aswell so it just goes to show.
