It's exactly the same as the 360, they compared graphics on Fight Night & Tiger Woods & the diffrence is unnoticeable (360 looks a bit sharper). I'm guessing they will also have many of the same games too.

I think you will find that the graphic wars will only really come into affect in a years time - initial Xbox titles werent awe inspiring graphically either - look how the PS2 or even Xbox1 graphics progressed. Xbox is already a year in and ps3 is the same - ps3 has alot to offer yet.

Xbox has finally started getting some new intellectual property though, rather than just relying on EA reiterations etc. Will make competition stiffer for Sony, who have always had alot of unique IP.

PS3 will do well. The existing fan base from PSX and PS2 is HUGE. I for one will never buy an xbox. I personally dislike the controller and i like the ps3 franchises better. Metal gear definitely is an attraction for me!

Alot of the negative media is also being launched by Microsoft, and why shouldnt they? But i dont think Sony have as much to fear as the media makes out.
Developers say that the Core CPU is more difficult to develop for, but they said that the ps2 was clumsy, but they worked around it. The Core Cpu is ALOT more powerful than the Xboc cpu and developers will create tools after the first generation of games to develop easily for it.

Sony are not out of this game. December 2007 will be the true D-day of the console war.

Graphics graphic graphics, thats all anyone goes on about. Gameplay is the number 1 concern. Some of the best games ever had simple no nonsense graphics.

I'm still on an origional xbox an find it plenty good enough. If a game is any good i'm so wrapped up in it that trivial things like whether i can see individual blades of grass as i lap Laguna Seca or how realistic my gun looks as i'm blasting the head of the dumpy little snail things in Halo 2 doesn't even register.

The PS3 costs 6x what my xbox cost but i bet it isn't 6 times better or does 6 time as much. Afaics in real terms not spec sheet gibberish, it has better graphics and that blueray thingi drive. Not worth an extra £450 imo.

This is Sony's downfall. Extortionate prices for something that is still available.

I was once a Sony fan. BUT I will not buying a PS3, no way. Yeah it will probably sell out on release, but I bet it will be beaten by the Xbox 360 even the possibility of being beaten by the Nintendo Wii.

I think New intellectual properties go hand in hand with gameplay and innovation. Playstation has always embraced a culture of doing new things, which thankfully Xbox is catching up on. So along side the graphics, there will be gameplay as well.

I think the Wii, although revolutionary in its approch has one major flaw.
The innovation is in the controller only.
The base unit is essentially a GameCube with extra Ram - not particularly future proof.Whilst you can bang on about gameplay over graphics, the same game play will appear on other consoles in shinier guises.

There is nothing to stop developers creating the same/similar games for other platforms. Microsoft are already developing the tilt/motion sensing into the next controller and Sony has the SixAxis in the PS3 controller. Those games will be recreated for these platforms. Some games (such as sing star/guitar hero) already ship with new controllers, so there is nothing to stop games shipping with peripherals for motion sensing if 1st party peripherals didnt appear.
I personally dont like Mario Games, so i will feel no loss of not being able to play that, but the fishing/tennis/boxing etc will be converted to PS3 and Xbox 360.

PS3 is also going to get the EyeToy2, which has a HD camera and depth sensing using Infra Red (same as Wii mote, but based on unit rather than your hand). So you could go the next step from wii sports and actually box yourself for example, with weaving your body actually making a difference (rather than tilting controllers side to side).
With the ability to sense depth you will be able to box facing your opponent (screen) rather than boxing side scroll style as you did on the original eye toy.

Dont get me wrong, every format has its benefits, but i believe PS3 has more innovation in it than its being credited for.

This batch of consoles is certianly the closest industry battle yet.

Tbh i didnt expect the wii to sell as madly as it did, and i certainly didn't expect the ds to be no1 selling console over the past few months

I think i must have, as i become older changed into a casual gamer, these days i'm not concerned how many pixels my little box(or half nes half brevel toaster in the ps3's case) puts out - xbox 360 2nd gen games look almost identical s the 1st generation ps3 to me.
I went to a games museum a lil while back - the cue for the wii was humungus and the ps3 generally sat there unmanned with people looking whilst in the cue for tennis.
Gameplay is defined by the person playing it so you can't really say gameplay is shite till everyones had a go and said so, if good gameplay is sitting up till half 4 in the morning and keep going even though you should really be getting some sleep - the wii is ace, as for the ps3 i can't really pass judgement as i haven't played it - i can only build an opinion on what i know, its too expensive, its too fat, i dont want to be playing devil may cry 42/X or ridge racer 99, most playstation games i see are followed by a number of where it appearsafter the origional.

They lose money on each console as it costs more to make it than the RRP.

Its that price because of the technology inside it. Froogle the cost of a Blu-Ray player, im sure you will we blown away by how much they cost. A blu ray drive is included in the PS3 and its costs half as much.

But having blu ray will benefit for the ps3 - rather than just being used to make the ps3 a multimedia centre, it will allow larger information to be held on disk. DVD format current max storage is about 9gb. Blu ray has already hit above 80gb. Much larger textures etc etc can be stored on the blu ray meaning that better looking and larger environments can be played, without changing disks.

Thats true, but it wont be able to play games from it. Quite a flaw.

The PS3 also has a much larger internal Hard-drive which can be upgraded or swapped with standard Laptop style HDD's. This allows for a large amount of storage and upgradeability - but you can upgrade with a cheap HHD you find on the net rather than an "official" HDD addon.

I agree the PS3 is expensive, but there is alot in the package.
There is also a cut down version, similar to the 360 Core that will be cheaper.

Sony's online service will also be free, unlike Live! which you have to pay for.

I don't really understand all the brand loyalty. "ps3 is gonna fail blah blah". You don't WANT it to fail. Otherwise MS will corner another bloody market (the nintendo isn't even in contention, its not really a games machine per se - Just a poofy device for kids. Different market.). Blue ray certainly won't hinder it. Just not do much for it really...HDTV is fine for me thanks and thats what a lot of people already think too. Right enough, they should have jsut made stand alone Blue ray players. sticking it in a games machine was just a bit silly. Be better if they done a 'core' and premium like MS did.

UMD's flaw is its capacity. They are not for HD or next gen and the movie compatibility was bit of an afterthought. You buy the film on UMD for teh same price as a DVD and you dont get the extras.

The PSP's own ability to play downloaded movies (once converted to Mpeg4 format) killed the UMD's market - plus there was no real support from movie houses for UMD, whereas Blu-Ray/HD-DVD have a pretty much 50-50 split.

I believe that Blu-ray is a superior format to HD-DVD personally, with hugely greater capacity.DVD boxsets can be stored on a sing Blu-ray etc ,brilliant for series like 24.

HD-dvd's primary benefit is in its name. General punters will know what it is whereas Blu-ray is a bit more cryptic.
