What are they like to ride and to live with etc ?

I'm not after any thing new just something a little older with a bit more grunt than the k5 as its going up for sale soon.

I have seen a few nice zx9r's for sale one in orange (stock colour ?) and a couple of zx7r's going for a very good price. Also a nice KZ900 turbo/nos'd bike Laughing

So recommendations or comments on the zx9r ?

Friends wife has got one. Very nice. Has about 150 at the wheel, after fitting some evil twin pipe exhausts...

You'll notice the difference between the K5 throttle's response and the ZX9Rs. IMO Fuel Injection makes a big difference and getting back on a carbed bike always felt shitty after riding the CBR.

The US seems to get Orange Ninjas while the UK doesn't.

You should notice a bit more mid range as well as the rest of the bike generally being a bit more 'relaxed'.

I read somewhere, i think it was in Bike or Ride that if you hear a rattling on the LHS of the engine, it's the camchain tensioner, so just replace it, it's easy to replace so i'm told.

Don't go for the B1-B4 because they're heavy and have measly suspension compared to the rest.

It being a 900 cc inline four, check out the chain and sprockets and tyres, they have a somewhat limited life! 4000 miles roughly on all. But that depends how you ride.

A quick flick through some reviews and

Quote:
twisty country roads are where i ride for the most part. The 9R loves them and I love it. whatever about the track, in the real world in my opinon both the fireblade and the R1 take a backseat to the ZX9R. 1500 mile weekends hassle free in comfort. This bike has been seriously under rated by the media.

Thumbs Up the engine its awsome full of life when you want it
Thumbs Up Smoothness, comfort, performance, handling
Thumbs Up got to be that motor
Thumbs Up engine,engine,engine,looks,noise
Thumbs Up Ability to put the power down without a flighty front. Comfort. Handling. More power than I'll ever be able to use. Fairing actually protects from the elements. Acres of under seat storage. Stable at top speed 165mph.

Thumbs Down the rear suspention
Thumbs Down No fuel gauge and manual fuel tap (what are they all about??!!). Lights are weak
Thumbs Down paint on wheels
Thumbs Down brakes
Thumbs Down Not mad about the colour schemes. The tail unit is a bit fat and dated.

Personally I prefer the look of the 7R, but the added power of the 9R engine and overall size would appeal to me greatly Thinking

I can understand why you'd be after one Thumbs Up

But why stop there, why not a ZX10 or ZX12 Wink

Buy one in green, tweak the suspension and you have a truly good all rounder there.
Never heard any owner say bad things about theirs... and I find carbs smoother than injection Rolling Eyes

In terms of speed a late ZX9R is every bit as quick as a 954 Blade, or GSXR1000, and it's bigger, comfier, and nicer to ride for a lot of people. Fit a full race system and a jet kit, and you have both these bikes beaten too! I think they are a bit more vibey than the Blade etc, and they ccertainlydon't handle so well as std. But if you want to spend maybe £500-600 on a decent rear shock, and setting up the suspension and ride height, then it could be made to get close as spit to the others on the road or track.

Very underrated bikes, but big and slightly unfashionable, which is why there are a lot more Blades and GSXR's around of the same age.

I haven't ridden an early GSXR1000, but I'm pretty sure that's not the case. People that had ridden my tuned ZX9 still reckoned the GSXR1000 had the faster engine.

Now of course most people are limited by themselves, not the bikes - but then a bike that requires less effort may also find people setting their limits a bit higher.
I'm sure the zx9 could 'keep up' - but with a bit more effort from the rider.

The windsock mirrors are replaceable, and you can get 'pig mirrors' which are invisible from the front. Razz

Later versions have more 'tasteful' mirrors as standard.

Anyway, £3k and its yours.
