Very Happy Hello to all you fellow biking people out there.
I own a 600 Bandit, pictures also on this site.
Search my user name to find them.
I am looking to get good advice on having the original look
of the wheels changed to having them polished to a mirror finish.
Can anyone recommend a good place to have them done?
I am in the Oxfordshire area so somewhere close would be handy.

Best wishes to you all.

Happy New Year! Thumbs Up

Do them yourself. Couple of bottles of nitromors, £30 polishing kit and a drill. Takes a while to do for sure. Don't even consider doing the spokes. That will take forever to do and if most spokes are like they are on my SV650, they are rough so need to be sand blasted down and THEN polished to achieve any sort of nice gleam. Just do an inch of the rim or so, until the little ridge on the wheel.

If you wanted the whole wheel gleaming then probably best to find someone who can chrome them so you won't have as much work keeping them shiny. Go to yell.com Otherwise post in your regional forum.

Very Happy Thanks Instigator.

I have a mate who did the same.
Time and patience called for I think.

Cheers. Thumbs Up

I used nitro mors to remove the original layer of paint. Then went at it with wet and dry. Loads of elbow grease and going down from 120 grit to about 800. I used autosol to get the mirror finish topped off with brasso which i had lying about. If you've ever seen my bike (do a search in the show and tell section), you see that i've done the edge of the rim before it forms into ridge/web where the spokes radiate into the centre.

If you have a black bike or dull coloured bike, it certainly provides a degree of contrast and makes it stand out.

They're a bitch to clean in the winter though, so make sure you're religious with keeping your wheel clean. Forgetting to wash off road salt after a ride is asking for trouble! Sand blasting and chroming does take your mind off the cleaning, but why keep a bike if you're not willing to wash, clean it and give it some tlc? Wink

Its a bit out of your way but if you're interested and for anyone else you can use Pro-Clean in Prescot, Merseyside - Wheel refurbishment and polishing services owned by my uncle
