So, I'm happily heading down the A23 to Brighton last night at about 85 ish, just cruising along enjoying getting cool, when I look in my mirrors and noticed bike lights catching up with me pretty quickly, so being a courteous sort of chap, I pull over to let it pass..... when it does..... it's a f***ing Piaggio Scooter with 2 up! HTF does someone manage to get one of those things to go that quickly with two people on it? It must have taken the whole length of the M23 to wind it up!

Made me laugh anyway! Laughing Laughing

And are you sure that it was a Suzi Burgman or Honda Silverwing? They can do a ton.

Nah, was definatly a Piaggio! Funny looking thing though.. will have to go and look at the website and see if they do a bigger engine version!

Pah, shitty whiny 4 cylinder bikes! You need Triple power with growwwllll!! Laughing Laughing

And yea, away from the lights, the triple is quicker than any of the current 1000cc sports bikes - ok, so I run out of power at about 140 but I don't tend to go that quick most of the time! It's great fun pissing off R1 riders that think there bike is the quickest thing on the road!! Laughing

some 125 scooters can get about 75mph so if it was a 180 or a 200cc conversion it might actualy be able to get 85 - 90mph, however if it was 2 up like u say it would proberly have to be bigger than 200cc.

it was probably a piaggio X9 500, there capable of a ton with two up, though they handle shit, but they are injected and have an electronic centre stand, and loads of space under the big comfy seat! Shocked

So you havn't sen the latest PB mag with them testing the big scooters @ a trackday then? Which means you didn't know that they were overtaking R1's/Fireblades etc....

well last time i rode a x9 500, and was taking a corner at 70 mph, it didnt feel like my RR round a corner lets just say thet, and the grip is nowhere near what a bike has, and there pretty heavy! i think id preffer a motorbike!

Haven't seen it yet but don't you think it could be down to the rider rather than the scooter? I don't believe a scooter will ever be faster than the same rider on an R1/Blade round a track - unless it's a go-kart track or similar Very Happy

Ok, having looked at the Piaggio website, it seems it must have been an X9 500. According to their figures, its top speed it 160kph (100mph ish!).

Still not bad going for 2 up!

Well of course they're not gonna handle like a sports bike (or any motorbike, really), but that's like saying that an NSR doesn't have as much power as a Fireblade. D'uh.

Smaller scoots are mainly made for buzzing around town, and I guess the larger ones are for occasional motorway-type use (and overtaking old men on Speed Triples Wink).
