Hi

I bought my CB500 in september, and haven't recieved the log book yet.

Yesterday, I got an email through eBay from the person I bought it off, asking for my address details as apparently the bike is still registered in his name, not thinking about it i replied with my address.

I then sent him another email saying hang on a minute, have I got a ticket or what as i didnt think they;d contact him for anything else.

His reply was yes sorry mate, you've got two tickets - one for 38 in a 30 and one for running a red light.

Does anyone know of any way of avoiding these, perhaps a loophole in the bike not being registered to me at the time or anything like that?

If not, is a red light 3 points, and 38 in a 30 3 points??

I've already got 3, not sure when they expire though. Sick

supposed to be good for finding out the actual deal with all the urban myths when it comes to avoiding speed camera's etc.

Although it looks like they made every effort to track you down so i dont think theres alot can be done. Check the dates on the various letters sent to the bloke/to you against the NIP information in that site see if that gets you anywhere. Not alot else to suggest

Yeah its only 6 points for 2 years after test pass even at DAS far as i am aware.

That is correct. You're well out of the probation period and so should have 12 points available to you. Although I do think that others have a valid point in suggesting you try to be more cautious in future, it's one more strike and your out for a while now.

I think you are probably looking at 3 points a piece, it's a TS10 £60 for traffic signals and I'd imagine 3 points and £60 for the speed. When do you get the first lot of points off?

The TS10, is worse than a speeding offence.

I've had one in the car, its a strange junction where you go in to a box to turn right in to my work and it was there I got caught. Its not as if I went straight through.

Anyway it makes your insurance go up more than for speeding.

Just thinking about it, isn't it the registered keeper's responsibility? Registered keeper being the name on the logbook. It's the seller's responsibility to inform DVLA of the change of ownership as far as I'm aware, and as such there's a chance you could stick him for the points, wouldn't really be fair of course though!!!

Even if you can prove the bike wasn't registered to you. THe guy whom you bought it from will just have to prove that it wasn't in his possession at the time of the offences.

Just pay the fines and calm it down.

Someone just told me that they have to notify you within 14 days of the offence to take it further, is this true even if they've sent it to the previous registered keeper? does it matter what address they sent it to?

SOmeone else told me that you can just say you lend your bike to lots of mates, and don't know who was riding it that day

You are supposed to take "adequate precautions" to record who is using the vehicle. What these actually are is a grey area. Get yourself over to Peppipoo ASAP.

That won't work either, plenty of people have tried it. If you can't identify the rider you are responsible for the offence.
