Hi,

Called M&Ps earlier to enquire how much a service would cost. They quoted 140 (rough estimate) for plugs, oil change, air filter change, carbs balancing and cleaning and just a general check over for a few things I wanted to know.

Worth 140 or shall I try somewhere else?

Cheers. Several people have said that!

How much should I be looking at for just carbs cleaning and balance?

It is worth it... most of that money will go to 'labour' (not with a big L, although some will go to them too Evil or Very Mad ).

But it is only worth it if they do everything. I had an old 750/4 serviced and when I picked it up they told me that they couldn't get the centre two plugs out... so left them. I managed to do it myself later! At least they were honest enough to tell me about that, but the still charged the full whack Mad .

Other places have been known to just give the bike a little clean incertain areas to make it look like they have been working on it Confused . It would always be best to check a few things over before you hand over the cash: take off the oil filler and put your finger in to make sure it has fresh oil and stuff like that.

Another way is to put little marks on certain bolts or fixings that you know will be removed during the service: if they are in the same position when you get it back, certain work may not have been done.

Just one other safety check. Once you get home after a service, check that certain nuts & bolts are tight (brake calipers, wheel nuts, etc.) Better to be safe than sorry!

Thats not a bad price lol i was quoted 150 pounds for my first 600 mile service which consisted of an oil and filter change. What i said to the mechanic ended in off. Laughing
Perhaps buy a haynes manual and get your hands dirty? Changing the oil is pretty easy once your fairing is off.

I'd be sitting there watching them do it anyway as they have big windows facing the bikes in garage.

I'll cancel it tomorrow, meh.

I'd do it all myself it's just I'd have to do it outside and it's always pissing down here and dark by the time i leave work.

:\
