Which model? RRL onwards have high frame like a 750 / 1100, USD forks etc. I personally prefer the J and K models (fairing more like the 750 but RGV type beam frame). Between me and my mates we've had about 6 and they are indestructible. The RRL onwards ones have a great chassis but in rejigging the cylinder head they got rid of the engine's character (no big step in power at 9K like the earlier ones, feels like an FZR motor , the one I rode I banged off the limiter waiting for it to kick in). The standard of finish is appalling on all of them. ____________________ 18:54:48 Rob Fzs: jews don't give away stuff for free

If it's been looked after and had regular oil changes I'd buy it
Not sure of the exact year of that bike but they were unchanged from 1990.
Have a model history in a magazine I could scan for you if you were interested. ____________________ 18:54:48 Rob Fzs: jews don't give away stuff for free

That model is known as the Gk76a. It was the latest model they did. Starting in 1990. (G Reg) I used to own one. Awesome bike. Great handling. Might even get another one.
Things to look out for is blue smoke from the exhaust. Seems an obvious thing to check for but lots of them need to get the piston rings changed about 20,000 miles.
2nd thing to look for is the rear shock has often gone soggy on a lot of them. Looking at about £90 to get it rebuilt by a garage if you're willing to do the fitting yourself. It's not that hard. ____________________ Honda NSR125R -> Suzuki GSXR400R GK76a -> Kawasaki ZX636 B1H -> Honda CBR400RR NC29 -> Nothing |

I've got a 1991 76a, doesn't use a drop of oil. Selling it next year when my restriction is up anyway.
Rarest of the import 400's, makes a nice street fighter because of the highframe, carb O-Rings will need replacing by now if they are the standard items. They perish and will make it run rich. Get some petrol and heat resistant ones if you can.
Or ask the guys on 400greybike.co.uk there are some guys on there that know these bike inside out. ____________________ My Flickr |

The Suzi 400 is a competitor for the VFR400R, it is quick, handles pretty much the same.
Thing is, every single one of them has been ragged, after a certain point they run alright but are full of niggles. Get the wrong one and you'll be forever finding little things to sort out if it hasn't been serviced at every interval. ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.
