Presumably they won't know it was you who called specifically.
Especially as the police didn't turn up to your work.

Were it me, I would have tried to (subtly) tried to get pictures of them if possible while pushing it.

yes I would.

its someones property thats been stolen, I'm pretty sure you would want someone else to do the same if it were your quad.
If your worried about your cars park somewhere else for a bit.

Definately Exclamation I think you did the right thing.

As for the police, well it was reported stolen already, so it'll just look as if they were following an enquiry.

And the numpty's that stole it, they probably aren't clever enough to put two & two together and figure out that you had possibly rang the old bill.

IMO you've no worries Wink Just hope I'm right Rolling Eyes Very Happy

You did the right thing, you weren't "grassing" on them you were mearly reporting a veichle that had been dumped.

"my dumb boss thought it was wise to tell them the cops were on there way"

Any theif with more than 2 brain cells on hearing this would've ditched the quad and done a runner Laughing

And what would be wrong with 'grassing' on them. Keep a few lengths of steel bar (eg scaffold) near the doors where you work, and if you get wind of them doing anything to anybody's car etc go and give them a kicking.

Can't imagine guys thieving a quad bike in that manner would be anything other than scrotey chavy little fucks.

nope. I've yet to meet a policeman who had any interest in helping people. If for some unknown reason you needed to invite some people around who's only interest was to bully people with impunity, then I'd recommend you call the police. Otherwise, steer well clear. They'll most likely begrudge the fact you called them out and try and take it out on you.
Random chavs are much easier to deal with than police. Chavs might hang round in gangs, beat you up and take your possessions occasionally, but they generally don't lock you in a cell and fine you as well.

Techierob,
Trust me, they aint all bad, a few spoil it for the rest.
As previously mentioned, it could have been your bike next.

Of course the right thing to do was to call, FFS, people think the Police are super human.........we need the publics help to sort things out, we are only information gatherers, we work with the information gleaned from others.
Call it grassing if you like but those of you against the cops, are you prepared to say that you'll never need them?????
NO! so don't make our job more difficult by being obstructive, if more people did the right thing then crime reduction would be significant and the cops wouldn't be tied up 24/7 and so would be able to respond faster.............its not brain surgery is it.

When I came home to find my flat ransacked a few years ago the police were around in no time, despite it being 1am on Saturday night (well, Sunday morning, I suppose). The two blokes who came round were very helpful and chatty and just seemed to want to make sure I was ok. I had a few friends staying over at the time so I would have been ok, but they stayed until the fingerprint lass showed up and started scattering dust everywhere. Despite me being a little drunk (I'd been out all night in Camden but having to break into your own home to find someone's been through everything you own is a sobering experience) they were very patient and sympathetic - to be honest they couldn't have done much else.

Until then I had assumed that the police were only interested in wringing another 60 quid out of me each time I went over the speed limit, but my opinions changed somewhat that night.

And yes, I'm one of these old-fashioned people who believes crimes should be reported. I don't necessarily expect a resolution, but I just want to make sure they get into the statistics. The only reason this government is able to boast that crime figures are falling is because people are reporting crimes less and less.

Lol. They call that hidden. Laughing
I've done my good deed once. Found a dumped scooter in a farmers field I take my dog for walkies (common for chavers with stolen bikes Rolling Eyes ) So wheeled it to my house, phoned up police, told them the reg plate and stuff. Confirmed it was stolen (no shit Laughing ) Took it to the police station for the rightful owner to come pick it up. Thumbs Up
