 |
|
I am in the third year of an engineering product design degree and am currently deciding what to do for my proposition module (can design/build anything i like) i was considering tackling motorcycle safety.
I have a number of ideas myself but was wondering what you guys think. If there was something that could make biking safer what would it be ?
Any ideas are great such as a system that detects drivers pulling out or lights that look round corners, can tell you when your tired ......
any ideas are great no matter how stupid they might sound. So if anything could make biking safer what would it be ??
Any ideas would be great, thanks in advance ____________________ CBR125R - CBR600Fy

something that would alert car drivers of bikes approaching and it would cut the engine if they tried to pull out of the junction or do a u turn ____________________ We're all just born to die. So lets have some fun

I'd say a top down GPS system , ie you can get a live video feel from a satellite so you can see whats coming round the corner or down a street to your left ahead of you , if you see a car going really fast ie have no intent of stopping for the junction...
still this is Military tech, and is a bit orwellian for my taste.
or just a C4 shaped charge on each side of the bike! ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will. In the end, your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching. |

a grip sensor ,
ie it shines a beam on the road and on the tire measuring slip , hence if you are a rookie , you get sort of a grip sensor on the dash , which tells you , you can lean it further , since many many rookies ride slowly or need somebody to show them how to go round corners.
it'll be useful for those who want to push it but not too far,
complex since there are wayy too many variables and you need a FAST computer to calculate road surface vs tyres vs speed @ 110mph. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Maybe do something that will reduce the effect wind has on motorbikes. Being blown across lanes is very dangerous.
Although, I do not know how the hell this can be achieved!

one of the most common injuries in serious motorcycle accidents is pelvic damage due to the rider impacting the tank and then the yoke/bar.
perhaps looking at manufacturing a crumple zone into the tank so that is can crush, causing fewer injuries, or yokes that get moved/removed/adjusted like a stereing coolumn does in the event of a bad front smash.

Hmm i like the idea of a crumple zone on a tank - definately one to think about
What do you guys think of lights that look around corners ie when the bike is lent over to the left the lights would move to the left giving you a better view around the corner - for those twisty roads at night with no lights on ?? - just one of many so keep your ideas coming
Thanks ____________________ CBR125R - CBR600Fy

How about something as simple as a proximity sensor? A little bleep that goes off when you get too close too a bike, or one that goes off if both vehichles show no intention of stopping and thier paths would cross? ____________________ Will work for petrol

I think all of these ideas are fine in principle but bad for the road due to risk compensation,
since they think such safety aids will protect them in any eventuallity , which is probably why my idea is best! , explosive charges tied all over the bike , this would surely make people ride much safer.
either that or a HUD system which incorporates a mass spectrometer , and IR camera , so it can see ice on the roads or oil on the roads, not practical though ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Yeah think your right about it not being comercially viable but to be honest all i have to do is get people interested in it.
Pretty sure i know how i would do it, think i'm gonna go with this one as i think i could get it working really well -
next step asking companys to sponsor me ie give me free stuff and money ____________________ CBR125R - CBR600Fy

Could just simplify the corner light thing and make them angle up as your speed increases to allow you a further view of whats in front.
Yeah I know thats what hi beam is for but would be nice to see how high you could get the buggers
How about piggy backing the idea of crash knobs.
Perhaps a set of bars or the like which extend out side ways when the bike passes critical angle and goes over.
This depending on length could not only stop crash damage to the bike itself but maybe reduce any damage to the riders legs when laying the bike over.
Obviously placement would be critical as they would have to extend very quickly and if a rider or pillion leg was in the way ...well
On another note, if one of these things take off, how will you send me my cheque ??
Oh also if you come up with something marketable does the institution have rights to it.
Might not wanna make something too slick

just make it controversial then , the woman who made the anti rape device got a ton of free publicity (it was a tampon with a spike at the bottom) , and it built up alot of debate,
this is a two edged sword since politicos may think we must do something about it! , and ban bikes. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. A forcefield that will go around both the bike and the rider that will absorb any impact, abrasion etc. ____________________ Go back to bed - You have no rights - "Streetfighters ~ Mainstream motorcycling's crackwhore sister." |
