Don't know how many people this will apply to, but thought it may be of interest. Seems you can rack up 18 points without a ban.

its possible to get 12+ points and not be banned , this guy in cornwall got 36 , another one got 42 , they were allowed to keep driving as their cars were essential for work,

and they they see somebody whos got 4 children and is a taxi driver they are dead leinient , since the magestrate thinks oh shit do I put him and his family on the dole for 12 months (ie cost taxes loads) or do I just give him more points? . and make it cost HIM more , ie more insurance costs etc
