to be ohnest mate im 17 and ive been on a 2 wheels for a year and i love it. My family arnt impressed with my choice of vehicles, as they explain everythime i see them .
And i think if a girls that interested in you get her number and ring her when ur sober .
But theres nothing like cruising witht the wind in you race and skipping traffic cues
And a car is ALOT more exspensive (well was for me). £500 -1000 banger then £1500 insurance 3rd party . Thats a maximum of £2500. I got my YBR125 for £2000 with insurance and ready to drive off the fourcurt!
Lastly my dad bought me my bikes (isnt he cool), but he said he wouldnt buy me any bigger, so anything bigger like going for a DAS is upto me. Might have to wait till i move out ____________________ 2005 - 2006:Peugeot jet force 50 TDSI (sold)

Picture this, some guy, with girlfriend in tow pulls up next to you at the lights in his shiney new 1.4 (insert generic hatchback), hes giving it some revs, acting tough , you both pull of from the lights, him wheel spinning and pushing his car to the redline (5k revs), You alongside, smiling at the girl and him, you give them a little wave and then open up the throttle and disappear into the horizon in a flurry revs, at the next set of lights when they eventually catch up, the guy stares straight ahead, red faced with tunnel vision and you blow a kiss to his girl, who cant take her eyes of you |

yeah my parents are pretty against it as well, but i managed to get them to front me the money for the bike, had to pay back every penny though!
totally worth it though!
with regards to practicality bikes appear to be pretty awful, BUT the insurance, which you dont get back and have to pay every year it like a third of the cost, the bike might cost a bit more than a car but at least you get most of that back when you sell it
go for the bike!! you know you want to or else you wouldnt be on here ____________________ previous bike: 2000 Aprilia rs 125 - SOLD

I ride to the pub as my local its over 25 miles away! I don't drink, because even one beer messes about with my reaction time.
I don't tend to give random girls lifts on the bike because it's unlikely she has full gear. If she does have full gear with her then she either has her own ride or will have no problem riding pillion.
If she dosn't have gear then it's not a problem, she'd have to be getting home somehow anyway!
If I decide to drink then the bike stays locked up at the pub and I crash at a mates house. Same as if I had a car really.
Running a bike takes some adjustment, but its not a problem once you get your head around it.
As for the parents well, I put off getting my CBT until I was 28 because my parents were so against me getting a bike. At various times they threatened to disinherit me if I did. In the end I decided that its my life, went for it and told them afterwards.
I paid for both my CBT's, my DAS, bought my own bike and all my own gear. My parents didn;t contribute and I wouldn't ask them to because they are so against my riding. Even now 5 years later they are convinced I am going to have a serious accident but they are a bit more chilled out about it. (Of course me breeding helped with that too)
My Dad stacked his bike into a ditch when he was 16 and moved on to cars pretty damn quickly and my middle brother (the sane, safe one of the three of us) got T-boned by someone pulling out on him in the fens so I guess they have got reasonable cause to worry.
The thing is, its not about how long you live, its about the way you live and my bikes give me something spectacular. ____________________ Kal...

If I had to choose between a car and a bike Im afraid I would have to take the car for practicaility. Although if your mates have cars it may not be an issue
While the car pretty much sits there most of the time because I choose the bike where possible.
Im not sure I could go withtout the car full stop.
I hope I never have to make that choice.
Get a car, get a job and get both
Sometimes learning to drive a car isnt such a bad step in your riding career. Learn about road craft in a safer environment.
Also while Im not on your parents side for not getting a bike, it can be wise to listen to them once and a while.
Maybe they know you better than yourself.
Don't be fooled riding a bike can be dangerous and very tempting to do silly things especially at a young age.
So listen, take it on board and make a sensible decision. You have time on your side. ____________________ meh |
