"Motorbike enthusiasts Tania and Dave Winterburn have hit out at “big brother” proposals to monitor bikers and force them to cut their speed.
The couple, who own a Leamington motorbike accessory shop and have been keen riders for 30 years, say government plans for new compulsory devices that can track individual bikers are “farcical”.
"Known as Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA), the devices will also be able to track bikers’ journeys and store data about each motorbike’s speed."

It isn't a wind up.

ISA is being seriously considered.

It isn't a wind up and it will happen.

Check out the MAG website

www.mag-uk.org for more details. Alternatively there is a bit of info on it in my sig.

We must stop it from happening. Sure, this has been trivialised by this paper and it focusing on the two people who run the accessory shop, but the government already have a test bike (a suzuki Bandit 650) which has a GPS system installed that cuts the power to the engine if you go above the speed limit.

I urge everyone who reads this thread to join MAG if they haven't already, because they are the only ones who will fight for your rights.

The BMF seem to have recently spectacularly imploded...

Those doing the testing had a fleet of cars equiped with it on the road a couple of years ago.

One reason bikes took longer is the guy running the study thinks bikes should be banned.

All the best

I'm aware of that, but I couldn't cite any sources for it on my website, much to my disappointment.

That sounds like the most dangerous thing I have ever heard of. I swear now if that happens I will leave this fucking country.

It has been going through for years. Hasn't been dumped yet, and probably more likely to happen now.

Thats an easy way to win an election imo, you say your party will scrap this plan and most of the country would vote for them I reckon.

The testing has been done on cars, it's linked to the road tax by mileage thing thats going through, so there is a fair chance that most people will think that using this will cut their roadtax.

Last time this surfaced there was a problem with the test bike cutting power in corners, MAG were complaining that this would lead to accidents where bikes lose grip.

Advantages are no more speed cameras and no more APNR cameras - they'll know where vehicles are so there are theft ramifications.

The only downside is that vehicle owners will have to pay for the units to be installed but seeing as everyone will have to pay for identity cards under the current plan and the vague grumbling from the public isnt putting the government off I can't see them worying about that.

If they do introduce it I might go and move to Canada, or Scotland if devolution is actually bought in.

An issue like this will efect the entire United Kingdom, they recently announced they were bringing Ulster version of the DVLA in line with the rest of the UK

Not to mention what happens if you're doing an over take and find yourself in a posistion that requires exceeding the speed limit.

i think anything that relates to cutting the power to a bike will not fly because of the safety implications.
Well lets hope not anyway.

Could see it being applied or passed by people who have never so much as sat their arses on a bike Middle Finger

I can see it now: Some big, carefully spun government report outlining measures to combat all the terrorists and paedophiles who use bikes. Anyone with the spine to stand up to it will either get labelled as a subversive or a kiddy fiddler. That, and a few headlines about motorcycle accidents on the front page of the sun and the public will be crying out to get these things introduced.

Likely that the conservatives would be just as bad at supporting it, while the liberals would eagerly support it while cutting speed limits at the same time.

Guy doing the study also apparently thinks the ideal urban speed limit is 12kmh.

All the best

No, it isn't about that at all. They have a test bike, but only after the head of the programme did a U-turn on his stance that bikes should be banned.

This, along with the changes to the licensing laws will eventually force nearly everyone off of motorcycles. Which amounts to the same thing as a ban. The reason it will work is because it is a slow incrementation of hardships and annoyances until we don't ride anymore.

This will get less resistance from an apathetic british electorate than an out and out ban. This is a very serious issue and probably the greatest threat to British motorcycling ever. You thought that leg protectors were bad? think again...

Seriously, we must support MAG, I'm not one of these beardy harley types, and I certainly don't want the helmet law repealed, but MAG are the only lobby group left with any teeth. One of the high up people in the BMF recently was accused of racism or something, and the BMF sacked its entire board. I've read many articles which imply this is the death of the BMF. (If this is wrong I'm sure there are members on here who will correct me).

Don't be cynical about MAG, be cynical about the government. MAG may be a bunch of beardy harley riders, but they have our best interests at heart. Unlike Tony and his Cronies.

If no one listens to anything I say ever again on the forum, I'd still urge them to listen to this:

We must stop EVSC/ISA now!

Unfortunately there are only two ways I can see to do this: Join MAG or write to your MP lots. Joining MAG is easier, and probably more likely to have an effect.

Do not make the mistake of thinking it can't happen. It can happen, they have spent the money on a working demonstrator. All of the infrastructure is in place, all that is required is the legislation.

Only our complacency will allow this to happen. Apathy has brought us this far, we must not let it continue to the ultimate conclusion, which is the end of motorcycling in the UK.
