Simple question...........

Is there any way i can get scratches out of my dark visor?

OR

Should i just buy a new one?

There only light scratches from where i was being a dumb arse and left it in my top box without the visor bag on it.

Hey,
Now this is going to sound like BS.

When i bought my new helmet i caught the visor on a wall and put a fairly sizable scratch in it. Being a poor student i couldnt afford a new visor.

I took the visor off and rubbed the scratched area with T-Cut. After a bit of polishing the scratch dissapeared. T-cut also works very well with CD's. I've saved a few very worn out and scratched CD's with T-cut.

Hope it helps.

T-cut and Ciff will as they are mild abrasives, but in reality you are removing one big scratch for thousands of small ones. If you go this route I wouldn't want to be out with the sun shining low in the sky in front of you as you wouldn't be able to see anything.

Brasso can also be used it works very well to polish clear plastic, but as with all the suggestions it will only work on very small scratches. I've used brasso to remove scratches on phone screens and iPods, it works exceptionally well. However, deep scratches are pretty much impossible to remove. Also as Finglonga points out you will create lots of incredibly small scratches although I'm not sure how visible they will be in practice :S

Hey,
When i took the scratch out of mine using T-Cut i never noticed the scratch again. Obviously if i looked for it i could see it, but it was never a problem when the sun was out. I've used it both on tinted visors and clear visor with good results.

Another option is to use Autosol. When my mum accidently set fire to the living room my dads phone screen got slightly tarnished. The tarnished bit rubbed out with Autosol.

Cheers,
Shaun

Its a long story.

We have a nice coal fire. One cold winter day mum went to start it and because there was no wind over the chimney it wouldn't light. So without thinking she went into the garage and picked up the bottle of fuel my brother uses for his model cars.

The fire was still smoldering when she chucked a load of the model car fuel on the fire. The fuel lit so fast it caused a massive fireball which sort of engulfed the fire place and the wall. I was upstairs at the time and heared a bit bang followed by my mum screaming(It was not a very nice thing to hear)

When i went downstairs there was patches of fire of everywhere, on the ceiling, on the walls, and the bottle itself was on fire! My mums face was really badly burnt as well as her hands, and naturally she was flapping like crazy. So i got her out the room. Then i set about putting the fires out.

I then got some water and poured it over her face and hands. The ambulance came fairly quickly.

It wasnt a very nice experience. And something i wouldnt want to see again.

Cheers,
Shaun.

Christ... I'm sorry to hear that... what a proper nasty accident. You mom okay now?

Fire makes me panic like I'm going nuts and I can't think straight. I wouldn't want anyone to have to rely upon me in the event of a serious fire - I'd be off down the street in a screaming panic. I remember setting a teatowel on fire in my folks' kitchen once - I threw it carelessly onto the gas hob which was still burning on low and it went up in no time at all. I threw the washing up bowl (and contents) over it in a blind panic and yeah, it put the flames out, but left a right burnt mess of broken crockery and a helluve lot of explaning to do later.

Sorry to hijack the thread Karma

Yer shes ok now, cheers for asking Thumbs Up But she set the kitchen cooker on fire only the other week. The last time she did that she left the gas on then came back to light it and the resulting fire flash took her eyebrows off.

Sorry for thread stealing Neutral

As for visor scratches i recon that your best options are:

- Autosol
- T-cut
- Braso

Nice circular motions seem the best option, followed by a quick buff. Did the job for my visor Thumbs Up

Personally unless the scratches are very long and hinder your view, i wouldn't bother with a new visor.

Cheers,
Shaun

I read somewhere online in the past when I was looking into how to polish scratches out of CDs, about a guy that would take his scratched CDs to an opticians (the ones where they make the lenses and do repairs on site) and they'd polish out scratches for him for a few quid using their polishing machines, and the CDs would apparently look good as new.

Not sure how much that'd cost, but if it's an expensive visor then it might be worth asking. I would guess it'll only take them a few minutes.

I also came across some liquid polish stuff at the time that someone recommended for CDs that was designed for repairing scratches in plastic and that mentioned visors. I don't think it polished out the scratch exactly, but cleaned and filled it and created a new layer over it or something. Can't remember what it's called now though unfortunately (wasn't riding a bike at the time and didn't bookmark it). If you google for it you might find it though.

This isn't the stuff that I saw, but looks like the same sort of idea:

https://podshop.com/idrops/

was the first link I came across in google. If you do a bit more searching you might find alternatives.
