...think they can out-accelerate me?

Example: youngish fella in a Merc CLK at Ealing Common this evening thought he'd have a go.

To borrow a phrase I'm not sure I should be using at 29, he got pwned.

I'll never tire of having hundreds of BHP per ton.

I've raced bikes and other cars from a standing start on many occasions and most of the time, better judgemment takes over and 'Mr Sensible' takes over.

I'll whip and rag with the best of them but when the speed starts going over 70 or 80 mph in a built up area is just plain stupid, so I'll start to back it off.

Oh yeah. At Ealing Common the road becomes 1-lane very quickly, and at that point, once I'm in the lead, I'm doing 30 bang-on. Just to rub it in, y'know.

Somebody who knows how to drive it will take you on with a street sleeper or a properly fast car one day.

They have less power but they have a shitload more grip to lay it down with.

The kickdown on my mates blown and bored dodge charger is pretty evil, I'd beat it across the lights but he'd catch me soon after in a straight line (just as he lets it hook second gear at 70mph and lights up both 17" rear tyres say).

I don't doubt it. And when that day comes I will doff my cap in their general direction and admit defeat like the big man I pretend to be.

I'm not bigging up my bike or my riding here. I'm a newbie on an ER-5. It just amuses me when drivers see me filter to the front and think "I'll show him".

I don't normally 'race' boyracers away from the lights - it's not hard to beat a 1 litre Corsa overloaded with speakers and bodykit away from the lights really. However, this one time, a proper spastic-wagon of a Fiesta pulled up next to me while I was waiting at some lights, windows down, arm hanging out, with the spotty oik at the controls revving the poor little Fiesta to within an inch of it's life. Normally I just ignore such shannigans but this time I just gave it a big handful of revs blasting through my race can. The little spot-fest just looked at me and said "I think I'll let you go first". Laughing

When I'm in the car one of my tricks is to sit there revving my engine like I want a race, and then pull away normally, watching my opponent screech away into the distance in a cloud of tyre-smoke.

Sometimes it's funny playing with people's heads.

I remember reading a post on here where someone did that and there was a copper behind the other guy. The other guy sped off and obvious the copper caught up to him and gave him a bollocking.

I miss summer.

I noticed they stopped doing that when I lost the L-plates, still get a few tho. The jap cars such as the scoobies and evos are best as they think they are in with a chance, fair enough driven by someone who knows what they will doing and you stand a hard race.

I got rather supprised my a mitsu colt one day, was still infront but he wasnt far off! turned out to be a evo conversion and was quite a nice chap driving it. The other supprise was the nissan gti-r thing, again pretty quick.

I dont tend to race as Im far too new to riding, but I dont mind putting a bit of power down if needed Cool

I have " persuaded" two tossers to race me and hit a speed camera as I pull the revs back in the same spot in the space of six weeks. Mr. Green

Can i ask where it is? Razz I love them Shocked

I sometimes nip about on my scooter taking things off the line (i know i have no chance once they've hit 30-40mph) however theres a fair few traffic lights where i do it so chances are i'd have 'beaten' them Laughing

you do realise that the clk is available with engines with less than 180bhp,(a lot less than 100bhp/ton)they are not quick at all.i had one as a hire car and it was shit especially when people keep expecting you to get a move on.

I don't actually know where he lives. I think in the Midlands somewhere. I only ever meet the guy on bike runs.

I do know he takes it down to santa pod on occasion, along with another mate from Edinburgh with a totally standard looking Jag XJ12 (looks standard until you get close-up and notice things like huge tyres, carbon fibre bodywork, roll cage, total lack of interior trim/seats etc.)

I love this...

Even when I was on my CG. The goal is to wind them up and then hit the speed limit as soon as possible at which point I'll ride at the speed limit as they come screaming past.

I don't know why it amuses me so much but it does Smile Maybe I need another hobby... Thumbs Up

Yes... I expect that's why I managed to whoop his ass on an ER-5.

I had a C180 as a courtesy car once. It was pants. I've driven lawnmowers with more power.

I remember back in the *ahem* boy racer days Embarassed i had a nova gsi and removed the engine and replaced it with a rather tasty calibra turbo engine with full uprated turbo system and wiring with all the engine mods i could afford at the time.It owed me 8 grand and still looked like a standard gsi Shocked

Took that down the strip beating a gsxr 600 in the quarter mile.I still say to this day (and i told the guy riding the gixxer) that the only reason i won was because he couldnt get his power down.I think grip is the main factor regardless of power.

Id like to race my zx10 against it now Laughing

I used to think I was pretty indestructible off the lights untill only last week I was waiting at some lights on the Bristol Ring Road, 3 lanes of traffic.

Green. I pulled away spot on to hear what sounded like a spitfire screech past me, turned out to be a ferrari. At my amazement I managed to knock it in to neutral instead of 2nd I went know where while this BMW and Citron sailed past me. Owned by 2 cars and understandably a supercar Rolling Eyes
