.. is that you don't get to be victimised by the manufacturers and million pound advertising campaigns. You are left to you yourself to research and decide what you want, in contrast to cars..

Very practical, and sales are obviously drivin by reputation as opposed to forced perception.

There was the huge Red & White Honda add during the World Cup.
All the hype in the bike press is sponsored by the bike companies as are the GP races, the chicks, the leathers and the rest of it. Do not forget the product placement in Hollywood.
They advertise their tits off and they are clever at it, you never even noticed Mr. Green

In a car you can get a test ride at least, I was looking to buy an MT03 and the twattybollox Yam dealers would not let me ride one before they took my wad.
I still have the wad, they can stuff the MT03.

I agree with 1930Ariel;
There is a shit load of advertising for various bikes there. Mostly in movies or games. Just off the top of my head i can think of a few movies heavily sponsored by bike companies for this exact purpose, and after watching a few i felt compelled to try the bike i saw out. Point being is that bike companies are often alot craftier at advertising whereas the car companies take the approach of bombarding you with advertising or blanket coverage to draw customers. Something that often more annoys me than intices me.

There's plenty of advertising, just not on TV like cars. Buy a bike magazine, it's chock full of various adverts and suchlike. Every company professes to have the newest biggest, fastest most powerful bike around, with the best cool factor. If anything it's worse than the car industry, because with bikes where 10 years actually makes a rather small difference between two GSXRs in terms of power etc, 10 years between Vauxhall Astras and they're unrecognisable, because there's so much more to do to a car.

Whosethedaddy, thanks for the link to the ads.

I'm fairly new to this game and only bought my fisrt bike, a ZX6R J1 as seen in this ad, last August. However, I feel that had I watched this advert prior to my purchase I may well have opted for another machine as the message in the said advert seems to be: The Kawasaki ZX6R will make you feel billious.
