I went out on the bike today for a quick run to my local J&S to look at a new lid and gloves after fitting my new HEL Brake Lines (which are awesome btw)
on my way there i almost ran into the back of a merc which had stopped in the middle of the road. my own fault for winding round the throttle to much. when i was on the brakes trying to slow down my back wheel was all over the road due to it partially locking, i had a look at my rear tyre when i got home and noticed the middle of my rear tyre had no tread and had started to go down into the harder compound.
I myself think i could get another 1000 miles out of it but my mate says otherwise, what do you think?

yeah, get a new one, but before that, make a vid of burnouts, and post it, just to get some decent use out of it ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. Get some better happy pills, hit the gym & buy a medallion the size of a dinner plate. Job done |

The law says that the minimum tread depth is 1mm across a continuous band, 3/4 of the width of the tyre (so basically it can be bald at either edge, but not in the middle).
If you have a moped, then the there is no minimum tread depth, but the tread pattern must be visible as above.
(The 1.6mm tread limit applies to cars, vans etc.)
So in answer to your question, yes, it's illegal and could get you 3 points on your licence plus a fine.
