I'm in abit of a state at the moment, i have a 50cc Moped Scooter thingy, its abit of a state, quite unreliable, and i have a job around 20miles away on 50/60mph roads,

My scooter does around 35-40 at a push, and it is quite a tedius commute to and from work, so recently i have been getting my mum and dad to take me/pick me up.

I'm due to be paid in a month, and should have around 600-800 *hopefully*, so was wondering what would you do?

I am after ideally a bike that can do 60-70 comfortably, I was origionally looking at getting my A2 License, and getting a 600cc or something, but money is really tight, although i have passed my lessons and test, i can't really afford a larger bike/the insurance at the moment, so i have been looking at these Honda CG Copys, Hongdou? or Chituma? I have seen these available for £500, and they are what the bike centre used when we did the lessons. Is it worth me getting one of these for a year/two just so i can get to and from work, or is there any better options?

I want a 125, Under 800, my postcode is TF11QZ if anyone can find anything that may be worth a look,

I just in abit of a situation and i just need a reliable commuter to and from work, and college when i go back in september, college is about 25miles away, work is about 20.

Sorry if it doesn't make sense, its abit late and i've had a hard day!

Any advice or help is greatly apprechiated,

All the best,

Perry

Hi

Do you have your test? You seem to say you are looking at doing your test and say you have done your test.

If you have done your test then get a 500 twin, something like a GPZ500, GS500 or CB500.

From all the experiences people have posted with the cheap Chinese CG clones, don't expect it to be reliable.

All the best

Keith

see if you can find a honda cg125, even an old one in ok condition would be more reliable than a new chinese copy (i would imagine)

If i were you i'd probably pay £50 and give the test a shot. A 500cc commuter is a much better day to day bike. Running costs are similar to a 125 and when i passed and rang up to swap my insurance from my 125 to a gpz500 they gave me £40 refund so insurance can actually be cheaper on the bigger bike.

Hi

OK.

While I like 2 stroke 125s, the more modern ones are pretty high maintenance and the older ones are, well, older so more likely to have been thrashed to death. So, I would say count those out. Only exception would be something like a DT125.

Probably worth looking for a standard CG125, couple of years old or so.

All the best

Keith

As said, you'd be better off with an older CG125 than a new chinese copy. But I'd also suggest giving the test a go if you've had lessons.

You could get a decent 500cc commuter for well under £800, especially at this time of year. Whilst a 125 is a decent step up from a Ped, a daily 25 mile each way commute would soon become tiresome on one.

Wasn't trying to flame, complete opposite, i just sick of reading a forum and noticing the topic going totally off topic. I just am in a situation at the moment where i need SERIOUS replies, not joke ones.

Well I think you need to chill out more and stop taking life so seriously.

Anyway, you might want to consider one of the older, air cooled 100cc 2-strokes in your budget commuting needs. Kawasaki KH100, Yamaha RXS 100 and Honda H100.

Great fun (they do great wheelies), VERY basic, reliable, cheap to run (100mpg anyone?) and you should pick up a decent runner for under £500. They are getting to be older bikes now so they will occasionally need odds and sods doing with them but they are piss easy to work on.

Not quite as fast as some but my H100 will do 65-70mph flat out, although somewhat slower up hills/into the wind.
