Hi people. Unfortunately, I am going through a phase. Yes, I am considering packing it in as financial pressures (i.e. the need to move out for my sanity and that of my parents), the constant bad weather, and the need for a car (as when I go to the gym and go home on my bike, I'm always ill the next day).

I also commute daily and I have managed to secure a student discount for public transport so now my bike seems a less (financially) attractive proposition.

Also, a massive number of people keep warning me of their accident and how they will limp all their life because of it.

Your thoughts please..... Sad ....... Crying or Very sad

TBH - no I never have! Don't know if I'm on my own with this one, but that's just me! I was biking before I ever drove a car, and can relate better to bikes than cars. I thought I'd have to at one stage due to ill-health, but fortunatley, I've come through fighting fit and still able to ride. Thumbs Up

But I understand that that's not always the way for people - financial reasons is a tough one, but if it's the best decision for now - then who knows, maybe in a few years time when things are better, you'd be able to return to bikes. The weather can be a big downer, but it never got me down for long - once I thaw out and get dry again, I'm ready to hop on the bike again. Laughing

As for people warning about the accidents - I have that all the time from people - I just tell them I'm aware of the risks, but like to think I have enough cop-on to be more wary on the road.

Whatever you decide needs to be the best decision for you right now - and as I said already - it's always something you can return to when the time is right. Thumbs Up

Many times and increasingly more recently, due to the fact I barely use the bike and I would really like a car. But I will hold firm and keep my beloved Bandit.

Living on my own I don't have anyone bleating on to me about how dangerous it is riding a bike. Money isn't too much of an issue either so I can afford to run a car for practicality and a bike for fun. The only thing that pushes me back into the car at the moment is the weather, but I make a point of riding to work every day regardless of the conditions. It should toughen me up, improve my skills, and it'll definitely make me appreciate Spring when it arrives.

So no, not really. I'm a new biker so it's still a novelty, but I'm not sure that novelty will ever wear off.

Parking place.
If I happen to move back to Tokyo, there's not so many rented house with parking place for bike. So I might have to give up my bike. Now I live in the country, no problem.

it hasnt even crossed my mind.
ive had 3 bike accidents. 2 put me in hospital, one of which was nearly fatal.

i wouldnt dream of quitting.

i often get asked this by car drivers, to which i reply 'if you crashed your car, would you buy another?'

they just nod and dont ask again.

i have my car test soon, but im not looking that forward to it. (will be cool, useful)
im buying another bike soon, and i tingle every time i think about it.

I gave them up for about 5 years. Basically a case of having kids, and all the financial and time pressures when they are small. Never really conciously said I wouldn't have a bike again though, and got back into it last year.

I think you have different priorities at different times in your life. If a car suits you better at the moment then go for it. You can always get a bike again in the future.

Was told by the surgeons last Feb, that i would never ride a bike again after my car accident...I should be back in the saddle by summer if i am lucky...Unless my knee replacement comes through before. But hopefully I can defer it to a later date.

Always been a biker always will...As they say.......

I did go off bikes for a few months last year and i dont know why i just lost all interest in it and i ended up selling my zxr400.

But ive realised how much i miss them and am currently in the process of buying another one.

I think i just needed a break from owning one as id had nothing but bikes for 3 years since i was 16.

Same situation here.

After my 2nd accident and 2nd written off GSXR600 i can barely afford to get another one.

The problem is i havent got my car licence yet, so i may have to get a bike and then sell it as my insurance will be sky high.

Went through a phase last year after an accident. The event itself was pretty shocking and the sheer pace that everything went completely wrong scared me.

On top of that I still have an impending case from when I was reversed over in a carpark. I began thinking that I just wasnt supposed to be on the bike, that life wasnt worth the risk, that it was costing me too much etc etc.

I had to make my choice, a test ride on a SV650 was the make or break moment, I was so scared I thought I would just end up going straight on at the junction or something. Im still not back at my best but Im getting better and I eventually come to realise that I just love biking. Ive only been on the bike once in the last month and I didnt go very far but when Im sat at work bored and miserable Im re-running the journey through my head with a big smile on my face.

I just can't walk away from it!! Plus Ive got a try coming on a Yamaha DTR125, a triumph sprint 1000cc tripple, a 636 and most importantly (drum roll) a 98 R1. To say Im excited is a mild understatement!!

One things for sure, if you are deciding what to do dont rush into it!! Thumbs Up Wink

Thing is, I love riding bikes too.

But doesn't it say something that most MotoGP riders don't ride on the road?

I'm considering flogging my biek this summer and, the day I can afford it, I will get a track bike. That way if I come off I will only bump and roll around. But I will never be hit head-on by a car with a drunk driver kinda thing.

I know it's a pessimistic way to loook at things, but you really have to think about stuff like that. Confused

Came off the TZR at 50mph on the A48 some time ago, luckily (?) it was wet and I basically slid to a stop.

Walked away with nothing more than a bruised ego and aching muscles for the next few days but it really made me think twice about bikes.

Once I was back on the bike though, after a few days I was back to myself again Very Happy

To be honest, once you've ridden a bike I don't think you can ever completely rid yourself of their magic. Sure, you might give it up now, but come summer, when you see all the power rangers flying around in beautiful sunshine, you'll be kicking yourself.

Not really no.

The safety aspect has come to mind now & then, mostly after reading of another downed biker.

Yet, at the end of the day, I just think if Im going to die, I wanna do with with a smile on my face.
Preferable doing speeds in the triple figures at the time. Laughing
