apparently the ship beached on the south coast was carrying BMW bikes !!!!!!!!!! could be some bargains to be had for beachcomber's

Yeah, but who would like a bike that was probably engaged with salty sea water?

If you spot any cheap, new BMW's on ebay be very suspicious of an claims of 'dry weather use only'.
