Hello all, after going and looking at a very nice but too expensive SV650 I think I'm going to have a look at a few thundercats. The problem is restriction on them.

I rang up local yam dealership they said they sell the FI kits, but I explained that I'd prefer a throttlestop or similar as FI hold a monopoly (151 pounds for 4 washers?), so I rang swinton bikes, rotherham. Had a chat with the owner and he said he only signs FI kits because he wants to cover his back - I explained that the police see dyno read outs as proof and he ummed and arred and said if I brought him a kit he'd fit it and dyno it, or he'd dyno a bike I'd fitted with restrictors. Then he told me that the FI sheet says "30mm" which he assumed was the gap left in the washer in the inlet manifold.

What choices do i have now?

He said there are yam standard throttle stop restrictors but he doesn't know where to pick them up from, or I could get some washers made? Would that be a viable option? Certainly cheaper than 151 + labour for fitting.

Cheers.

Find someone with any IL4, get them to scan or measure the gap in the washer.

If you go for the SV, get washers from someone with a twin.

Then get someone to cut it out of some aluminium sheet, drill the right size hole. (Shape isn't important, the F.I ones are oval to make it harder to measure/replicate.)

Fit them, dyno it, job jobbed. £50 max including dyno. If you make the washers yourself it'll be cheaper too.

The gap in the middle of the washers for my FZR400 is about 14mm.
If your taking the washers out after the dyno run anyway it might not hurt to have the hole in the washer a little smaller just in case.

the SV was FI so I'd have had to pick up a restricted ECU.

If the hole is 30mm is that really all there is to it?

edit:

No I want to keep the restrictors in I think.
I like legality/safety.

I would be shitscared of getting caught or crashing and invalidating insurance

though when I was gonna get the SV i daydreamed about setting up a switching system between ECUs. lol

Definitely do-able. Something G's mused over in the past.

You say the hole is 14mm, but what are you measuring? We need an area. If it's a proper F.I kit the hole is oval..

So is it 14mm diameter? and circular?

Yep thats right,
they came with the bike. I've just looked at the paperwork for them. It's a yellow sheet with FI International printed all over it.

Device code 18
outer diameter- 38mm
the inner diameter is infact 13.5mm.
It also has a report sheet from a garage to say the bike has been tested and is under 33bhp(well was Laughing )

3.14159 x ((13.5/2)x(13.5/2)) = 143mm squared.

So that's for an Inline 4 configuration. I'd guess you just double that for a twin.

The outside diameter of the disk may change depending on the model of bike. And the disks must sit inside the rubbers that join the carb to the barrels.
