I've seen these 'Aixan' vehicles for sale and am very interesting in getting one, although at the moment I only have a provisional license, these vehicles fall under category B1 and therefore are classed as lightweight 'tri-bikes' even though they have four wheels, therefore what kind of license exactly do I need to drive this, can I drive it on a provisional license? would I be able to drive it on a restricted bike license if I were to do it? I basically want to use it through the winter as the recent cold has made me very put off of riding any bike through the winter and so would love to use this to get me around in. Any information would be highly appreciated as I'm only 17 so I'm basically looking to drive this little vehicle and have a small car rather than to have to wait for ages while I do my proper driving lessons and test (which I can do later on if I can drive this little car) Many thanks for any help in advance.

I believe you need to take your car test to get category B1 now as I hear the dvla have stopped bundling it with a bike test pass.

Oh that sucks! I was hoping I might be able to get around it, the quote on this site also got me excited (not in that way you dirty minded people)...

"You will be soon able to drive an AIXAM
car with a provisional licence......on your own!!"

It hasn't realy been cold yet...you are in for such a shock when the real winter weather kicks in propper.

Seems an expensive fix just to keep warm in the winter...and it loks like an invalid carrage...(IMO) Sick Sick

That actually looks pretty cool, but to be honest I'd probably be laughed at in one of those, the Aixam definately looks more attractive and is a four-seater...

At FingLonga, my parents would pay anything to get me off my bike, even if it is only for a little while lol thanks for all the quick replies guys! keep them coming! hehe Laughing By the way if this isn't cold enough for bikers then I think anyone who rides while it's any colder deserves a medal because my goodness it hurts to ride in the freezing cold at the moment (this is my first year biking so it's my first winter).

Ridding in the cold is the dogs bollocks and it is my 35th year of doing so. Camping without a tent is also fun, just a sleeping bag, beer and a good coating of ice to keep you warm.

You know that you are truly alive after a night under the stars with snow falling on you and a bike to ride in the morning.

Catagory B1 comes with a car licence only - Blame a study called "Safer Motorcycling" in 2000 - apparently Bikers arent as safe as car drivers in charge of a Trike. B*llsh*t!

Whoever came up with the study has the head firmly up the bloody arse.

Show me a car driver with no experience that can handle my trike and I'll call Bullshit.

I can only ride our trike if it has L plates on and I either have a car driver as a passenger or the Trike only has one seat.

No one seems to have realised that a Trike handles a lot more like a Bike than a car. If you try handling a trike like a car you are going to have an nasty accident. W*nkers!

So far no one offical has accepted my challange of finding a car driver to handle my trike.

Oh the offical reason it got rammed through? 10% of Bikers have a car licence so it would only affect a minority of rdiers anyway - thats the offical line.

Absolute c*nts.

The politicians who ran this have sucked so much c*ck that the sperm has filled whatever it is they think with - 10% is a huge number of people with bike licences and not a car licence.

B*stards. Aboslute, w*nking, f*cking b*stard c*nts!

I really can't tell you how angry the whole thing makes me.

The only positive loophole is if the vehicle is listed as a three-wheeled bicycle rather than a tricycle on the V5c.

Sadly our trike is listed as a Tricycle. C*nts.

I'm sorry to hear you're so frustrated! LOL Laughing but this makes no sense to me, the adverts in Bike Trader clearly state they can be driven need to pass! Confused

If I were in that position, let your parents pay for you to do your driving test. It'll come in handy with job's & hiring van's etc..

They are paying for my driving test, but I'm very impatient to be honest, I just spoke to a seller of these cars and as of January 2007 you are able to be 17, with a provisional license and drive it without supervision! the bloke just bought one for his 17 year old son as well! which means it looks like I'll be buying one this weekend and driving it around until I pass my driving test (and pass my full bike test as well of course, I can't wait to be honest. Thanks for all the help guys, really appreciated! Very Happy
