please help me on this topic if anyone can.
I drive an NSR125r 2003.the last few weeks when i start the bike from cold i open the choke first then put choke back in after a few seconds. Then i have to keep revving the bike to clear a build up of heavy smoke from the exaust.Failing to do this in recent days, meant bike eventually cut out.today after doing this, bike was cutting out anyway.Had to keep driving the bike to get a long stretch of road so it wouldnt cut out, then it got alrigth.THis is happening everyday. Is it sparkplug(although only changed in november)air filter or what else could it be

A couple of seconds of choke wont be enough. Leave it longer.

And I would decline the temptation to rev until the smoke clears. The smoke signifies the deliberate increase in oil to the mix for the initial start up from cold.

A few minutes of choke and no powerbands until warm.

Surely if its only just started to happen in the cold, its because its a cold. All 2-strokes smoke like hell anyway, my old 2-stroke 50 took ages to clear the smoke.

yup, your going to get a fair bit of smoke when starting from cold. Keep the choke out for a while, until maybe the bike seems like its going to cut out, then gently 'blip' the throttle, just to help warm it. Push the choke in then slowly increase the amount of revs. Mine does exactly the same on a cold morning. I will ride of and it will struggle to accelerate etc.

thanks lads.so its because theres too much oil getting in that its causing it too increase smoke output and lack of power on takeoff.
so definetely loads of choke, how long roughly should choke be out,and finally how many revs can you give this sort of bike when your driving.I know ive been driving it 4 years now but always feel that im driving it too hard.i never really hit into sixth gear and afraid to rev too much in third/fourth

You could do what I do with my 50cc scooter. rear wheel off the ground, full revs till it clears. Many many people have told me I shouldn't but I've done this since the day I got it near enough everyday(Had the bike a year this Feb). The bike has done 18000 miles, 7500 of which I have done. Never ever broke down.

So DON'T leave it to warm, DON'T change the spark, DO rev its bollocks off and DO buy the cheapest own brand 2-stroke oil Wilcos have to offer. Mr. Green Thumbs Up

No worries

^^^ do that and your next post will be about a rebuild, nsr engines are of a different brand to that of a moped Wink

Basically with me, I put my choke on and start up, then I ride up the road, about half a mile or so, I change gear as soon as the bike feels like its bogging down (Some mornings this can mean I'm doing 30 in 5th gear), I do this for half a mile, then I turn my choke off, then I ride gently up to 5500rpm, and don't exceed that for the next mile, then its absolutely fine and ready for anything I can throw at it.

nsr is very simple to start . choke on , no acceleration , just push start button . revs go up to 3000 then after few seconds the idle decrease until begining to stuff , now a bit of acceleration , choke off try to keep around 2000 rpm like that for 1 mn , then if you release handle your idle must stay at 1400 rpm , if not check pilot screw and idle screw . the full power cannot be reached until the temperature needle is not out of the blue zone . smoke is normal for this bike during the warming up and depense on the oil quality , the best are motul 600 and castrol TSX (all fully synthetic)
if your starting ask more than 1 turn of engine , i suggest you upjet your bike as i wrote in "nsr acceleration"
