highsides are bastards.

only ever had a lowside, and there was pretty much nil damage.

any idea what its going to cost to fix up?

The trick is to try and keep the back sliding when it starts to break out.

If you feel it starting to go, just hold the throttle steady. The second you shut the throttle your rear is going to slow down and catch grip, thats what throws you up and over the highside. You want to be keeping the back sliding for as long as you can - hopefully by that point you have been able to control it and get yourself back aiming in a straight line, so that you can dip the clutch and catch yourself back upright.

The one thing you should always try to avoid is shutting the throttle, if you dont have the guts to keep it sliding, then try hitting the clutch, it means the wheel isnt forced to slow down by the engine or drivechain, so it can slow itself down and grip itself at a slower rate - causing the wheel to be turning slower when it finaly grips and tries to kick you upright.

The third option is to simply stick your inside leg up towards the front of the bike, and away from the engine, turn your bars slightly away from the direction of the turn and give the girl a smooth increasing rev. She'll slip down on the lowside and you will slide away too. Remember to let go of the bike though once you've hit the deck.

Were you gunning it? Or carrying a large amount of lean? Always had slips and slides when I used to ride in winter, not a full blown highside though - how's your throttle control?
