im 17, got a 106 quiksilver, and in the process of buying another bike (400 probably).

fair enough ive had a bit of backing (car bought for me), but its going to cost me anywhere up to 3k of my own money for both this year Crying or Very sad

having to pay for car lessons+test+insurance, bike, bike lessons+test+insurance.

'luckily' i had an accident on my old bike, and got a fair amount of money coming.

I passed my car test but decided I wanted a bike. So bought a bike and got insured on my other halfs car.

I rarely use it though.

I'm 22.

I've had up to 4 bikes at any one time and a car and a bike on another occasion. Now I'm back to 2 wheels only as my situation dictates one vehicle only. The missus has a car though and I wouldn't be without the practicality, although she wants another bike as well.

2 wheels only was my choice because it was that or no bike at all.

Cheers

passed bike test as soon as possible, now I'm taking driving lessons, not because I want to buy a car but I think a full license is a good thing to have - jobs wise, and for emergencies etc. and I don't think I'd get round to it if I leave home before getting it.

Cheers

I have my FZR for a bit of fun, my Vespa to commute on, and my Celica just for shopping and other times when a car is more handy.
The thing is I hardly ever use the Celica it just sits there most of the time costing money to tax and insure. Confused

Both - commute on bike if possible to cut through traffic and for fun.
Car for carrying people, shopping and not falling off on ice. Citroen AX, costs me relatively peanuts.

You must be with elephant.co.uk Laughing

I'll get my coat

I passed my car test way back in the mid '90's and have only just done the whole DAS thing. I got used to a car, learnt about driving in traffic and in various conditions, so the swap from car to bike was an easy one. You could say that the hard groundingroad awareness was already done.

I love my bike, but modern day life with kids, dog and wife, it means that I need a car out of necessity rather than choice. If I were a batchelor then 2 wheels all the way Dance!

When my sons old enough to get his leg over a bike then he can have one, but, at 17 he will be learning to drive a car first and then bike 2nd for the same reasons that I did.

Sorry, got a Type R and a Tonka toy for a bike Wink

I've got both. Bike for commuting and fun. Feels like all I use the Fiesta nowadays is for taking the drum kit to gigs, and the rare occasion I take the girlfriend somewhere.

i know a car would be userfull but i would use it once a month if that. As the only time i would possibly use it is when im diving and you usually share cars and other than thats its just not needed.

I may do my driving test eventually but just for the times i desperatly need a rental van etc.

Bikes for life Thumbs Up

Currently find myself with two of each Shocked Confused Embarassed ...spot the single guy..... Twisted Evil

Got my commuting bike (GPZ500), my summer bike (GPZ900). a Merc 190E and just got, but selling on again, a Range Rover Classic: https://glasgow.gumtree.com/glasgow/90/7488590.html Mr. Green

If I had to cut it down further, after I sell the RR, it would have to be the 500 and commute in the car. Would hate it, but love my 900, the 500 is a great bike, but the 900 is just awesome Mr. Green .

Any further cut backs and it would have to be the bike Evil or Very Mad as I need the car for when I have the kids...

i have 4 bikes
i manage to justify this by saying they are each a tool to do a different job

admittedly by usual commuter, then yp250 is out of action at the moment, so im commuting on the ttr250 at the moment, which is good but not quite as good for commuting as the yp250

i have a triumph tt600 for faster longer rides, or if i just fancy a bit of speed

i think of cars as expensive to insure, but i have spent enough on bikes for me to be less sure that bikes are necessarily that cheap.

bikes are fun, and the traffic near me means i would have less time in bed in the morning if i had a car for commuting

I reckon feb and march are the only months its worth having a car rather than a bike, so i dont think you should sell your car just yet

I still got my very first car from three years ago, a 306 1.9TD, but it's a packet for me to insure (nearly a grand) and so 'im indoors insures it and I'm a named driver. It's the only way I could afford to run both a car and a bike. I need the car for dodgy weather and for luggin' files/decks/stuff about and for going home to see the folks who have no idea about the bike. AND I can't park the car at work, it's strictly 'partners and associates' only, but I'm allowed to park Betsy alongside their X-types and SLKs - she loves rubbin shoulders with the elite Very Happy

I have a car and a bike. Sometimes the car is just more practical- at the moment I'm doing a ninety mile commute down the M1 with a boot full of tools.
