You aren't talking about acceleration, you're talking about revs.
Personally I'd thrash the hell out of it. They are tough bikes, and as long as you aren't holding it at the redline for hours at a time, I doubt it will go pop.
One time I rode nearly all the way to Reading from Brighton in fifth, just because I forgot my NS125 had six gears. It didn't do it any harm.
If you don't thrash two strokes then they tend to coke up the exhaust with soot. If you thrash 'em its less likely to happen.
They were designed to be thrashed, so thrash it! ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade

I've found for smoothest acceleration change at 9000rpm, in any gear, if your going for high speeds, mostly because this is the most effective end of the powerband.
You can go higher if you want to, but I find it doesn't help the acceleration much, ____________________ Past: 55 Sym Jet, 91 ZZR250, 03 NSR125R. Present: 97 ER-5.
