Well i had an accident around 2 months ago and my bike got written off. Ive posted up some pics of the damage. I was wondering if you guys and gals can give us a hand in calculating how much its worth and whether i should buy the salvage.

brand new the bike was £8000, with depreciation its pre accident value was probably around 6.5-7k. So based on that any guesses on how much its prob worth in its present condition? The damage is the frame and then cosmetics, the wheels, brakes, suspension, forks, engine etc are in perfect working order.

thanks in advance

Is the frame damaged structurally or is it just scuffed?

That looks like a dent and a slight hole to me. But then again, is the dent designed to be there?

If not, £1.5k at the very most and that would be a track machine. That should be a Cat B surely if the frame is badly damaged.

There is a huge dent shown in the photo. An insurance assessor would write it off for that.

hi mate
sorry to hear about the crash

I had a crash on my K7 750.... someone went into the side of me, and my damage looks identical to yours but mine was on the right hand side..
The frame damage... was that caused by the bar end whacking into the frame? Thats what wrote mine off... as it actually split my frame.. Its got to be a design fault to be honest... as naturally the bar will be pushed back... but if the exact same thing has happened to you as it did me it seems frustrating that surely a slight change in design would probably have left us both with cosmetic damage... though my insurers said my swingarm was bent too, though I didn't see that.
My bike got valued at £6870, and I paid £7995 for it.. though I can't help you with the salvage price as I never enquired about that.
best of luck though.

That may be true but it would be worth WAY more than that if you broke it.

My advice would be stick it on ebay and see how much it gets. If it gets more than £2k I'd be happy, or you could break it and sell the parts on ebay and get probably somewhere around £4k I reckon, if not more.

Oh aye, course it would. But it's whether it's worth it or not.

I reckon you'd get over £1k for the engine, forks maybe £400, wheels the same, not sure about the rest.

Unscuffed panels are worth a bundle, wiring loom goes seperately, headlights and stuff can fetch up to £400, You've got an undamaged subframe, braking systems etc. I do think £4k is not unreasonable.

Im with Marjay, if your willing to put the effort in then you could make some good cash depending on how much they want for it salvage.

Do some insurers not have regular buyers for these things lined up?

£1800 for salvage is what they asked for. Is it worth track biking it, and yes it is a hole in the frame (done by the damn barend just like yours, most definite a design fault)

A few mates have said just weld it back up and it will be fine for the track but as for road use its not worth the cost of repairing it.

Its either a track bike or break it for parts.

my claim is 5 grand and keep the bike

or 7 grand and they keep it

I really would like to do the whole track thing as its looks like a real rush. I suppose £1800 for it is a win win situation as i can always get more on ebay??

I found out that's why the assessor wrote off my Rizla - because there was a dent in the frame.

Shame they're not prepared to pay out for what it's worth....

How did the accident occur???

The first thing you have to ask yourself is have you got the time and the know how to strip it and sell off the parts. I personally didn't bother with my Blade because I didn't have the garage space or the time to put into it. They offered me £7k so I took it and didn't have the hassle. There is definitely a benefit to breaking it but you need to think about the hassles.

With my previous bike, I sold it on Ebay as a track machine for £2k. It was only a cosmetic write off though and didn't have the frame damage yours has and the salvage was only £200 because the insurers didn't know there arse from their elbows.

you know what fella your bang on with that last reply. I personally dont know/cant be bothered to strip the bike and also garage space is limited so im thinking i will be better off if i just take 7k also.

As for track machine im having doubts too now. I simply aint got the space for two bikes and im not too confident with the maintanance and tweaking a track bike needs.

cheers for all the comments, its helped alot

I'd also be concerned about the frame damage even if it was a track bike. I'd really need to have my mind put at rest by getting it completely checked out by someone who knew what they were doing. £1800 is a lot to lose from a claim and have invested in a write off waiting for you to do something with it. I'd take the cash, get a new bike asap and settle down knowing I've got no hassles.

Good luck. Thumbs Up

£1800 would buy a decent track bike, granted it wont be a k6 gsxr.. but I doubt it will have the same heft damage to the frame.

Take the insurance money, and buy one in the right colour this time Wink

stealth colours.. it's clear that common white and blue is no match for the clumsy imported drivers of coventry...

you should've gone for black/purple black/yellow black/red...

Yes, you see i tried the 600 series.

I had the all bright yellow K4, i got knocked off.

Then i tried the Bright Blue Rizla Colours, i got knocked off that.

Now im going for a Yellow/Black 750.

Maybe i should try the stealth - at least i'll understand why they cant see me! Shocked
