What do they do to make it total loss they just take out the charging system or something?.

Would it be easy to hash it? , ie to carry around a couple of batteries and replace them charging them up in a house and or bump starting it when it completely runs out?

Any thoughts?

See a MINT race NC30 , which hasn't actually been raced yet and has just been converted to total loss, and fairings taken off.

ta.

Often also a lightened flywheel.

Shouldn't be /too/ much hassle to convert back to a normal system.

Total loss would be too much hassle for road riding I reckon.
New fly wheel, generator and associated gubbins as well as reg/rec.

However, if you want a pure road based machine, do look over it for other bits that have been cut off or mangled.

Yeah and remember if the battery is flat on a total loss bike you CAN'T bump it because there is no alternator to make a spark.

I rode my Jawa from Whitby to Silloth (near Carlisle) on total loss a couple of months ago after the alternator had a wee tantrum. Made it no bother on a 4 Amp hour battery but you daren't use the lights. When the battery drops below 9v, you no longer have enough electricity to power up the coils and the bike dies altogether.

They take the alternator off to make the overall rotating mass of the crank lower. The alternator also exerts a certain amount of drag on the engine which they don't want on a race bike.

Easiness to rehash it will depend on how comprehensively the system was removed and if they have modified the end of the crank to take a spinny thing for triggering the CDI pulse coil.

Hmm bugger , I keep finding super tricked up race bikes , with no ability to convert them back to road bikes , this NC30 had an alledged full race exhaust system , maxon shocks (?) , and fibre glass fairings he wanted £1300 for it.

Thanks anyway.
