OK, my dad has the honda varadero and he bought it off his boss(who was a short ass), What he did was he had the seat reconstructed similar to 'ACL reconstruction ' Laughing . It lowered the riding position by and inch or two(do not know exactly). so if you really want a Varadero. That is an option. How tall are you?

So nothing like an ACL reconstruction then.

You could sit there all day comparing what has greased nipples and what has greased buttocks. But ultimately, like in everything, there is a tradeoff to everything you buy. Otherwise everybody would be riding the same bike!

Price, reliability, looks, performance, maintanance, etc.

It's just a choice to what suits YOU most. I.e. it's pointless getting a GS650 as a trackday toy, and its pointless buying a litre superbike to cross muddy tracks and deserts in comfort with little or no reliability problems.

Unless, of course, you take into consideration the '98 R1......

WOW stinkwheel, I did not know that! It is annoying the way that these bikes are build, dont get me wrong they do it pretty well. But its the 'How long will it last' factor that annoys me. As another example a common problem which I encountered recently was the exhaust snapped due to corrosion by the connector pipe due to that part being made out of mild steel and the rest out of stainless.

Also what is Uni-trak?

Or even a 2001 R1, as this guy, Sjaak Lucassen used on a world trip. Wink Very Happy

Just goes to show you can tour on any machinery (all be it suitably modified and beefed up) Thumbs Up

The main problem with the taller bikes for me is the twisting while getting on and off. The ACL is basically there for that very reason. i.e. If you don't have one, don't twist.

I do like the Varadero but I'm also a big jessie and don't want a bike that powerful. Embarassed

Cheers.

Its not that powerful. I have the Bandit 600 and i found it about the same, maybe a little more, but not much. Its a V-Twin engine So dont worry about that. But yeah i can see your point about getting on and off . But the seat being lowered would help.

I crushed my knee in an accident 3 months back. To this day it's still swollen and numb.

I plan to get another bike - but i didn't take the 'knee' into consideration.

Im glad this topic was started. Cool
