pretty boring pics I guess - but thought I would show the effects of 'winterising' my bike with a good clean and some ACF50.
That stuff is the nuts -- ifs its good enough for planes and helicoptors, then its ok for my R6 !

Before ACF50

read about acf50 here: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/acf50.php

it may cost 12 quid a can - but if you apply it with a brush (easy to get to the hard to reach places) and also use a rag to wipe off the excess - soon you will find your brush and rag are loaded enough with this stuff that you dont have to use the spray.
ie: a little goes a very long way.
They use the stuff at my work to protect the alloy /metal /elecs on commercial aircraft (boeing, airbus etc)
It kills corrosion on contact and leaves a layer of protection for up to 12 months - the only time you have to reapply is if you wash with a harsh detergent or on very vunerable areas.

before applying I simply took off all the plastics - washed it down with some water and a little bike wash - then sprayed some in the hard to get to places - ie: in between the cylinders and around the yokes /rear shock -- then i went around the whole bike with a thick brush and coated the lot in acf50 + wiped over with a rag.
Obvious statement - but do not get it on your discs or seat or grips etc.

I have done this with my bike since new - hence it looks almost as new as when in the showroom- and its an 03 bike ridden in all weathers (been out today in the snow Smile
Awesome protection - wish I had shares in the company Smile

Keep a close eye on the ACF50 covered areas... it's designed to protect the INSIDE of aircraft wings... not areas outside exposed to the elements.

It doesn't contain salt inhibitors either.

What exactly can you put it on?

Cheapest I found was from M+P - they do a twin pack that makes it £10 a can - great if you can split it with a mate/someone:
https://www.mandp.co.uk/productInfo.aspx?catRef=901733

Can be applied to anything - it is ok for all plastics/ rubber , all metals etc - it is even dielectric, so does not carry an electrical current and can therefore be applied to your electrics to protect them from the weather and moisture (something for you Ducati owners out there ) Smile
-- but of course not brake discs or grips or anything else that you dont want to be slippery.

Thanks Sun

It just protects the existing finish from salt / dirt / crap etc.
for example - if your bike looks like a pile of shit and covered in rust and alloy corrosion - then simply coating it in acf50 will just keep it that way and stop it getting any worse.
However - if like me you have used the stuff since new and wash the bike every couple of months - then it will keep it mint looking.

I suggest giving the bike a good clean first and polishing as much as possible - ie: alloy cleaner and soap and stuff - then coat the bike in acf50 - job done.

I really dont put that much effort into cleaning my bike (probably 1 wash a month and one coat of acf50 a year) -although the mileage is not huge (7K a year ish) , it does get ridden all year - and for an 03 bike it is mint.... this way when i sell it I get the best price and least hassle Thumbs Up Cool
