Well it's taken about 10 months but it's finally happened - I've been knocked off by a cager.

Basically I was riding to Uni as per usual and was barely 5 minutes into the 25 minute journey when a woman pulled out in front of me at a junction. I tried to swerve around the front of her but she didn't slam on the brakes as quickly as I slammed the horn and she hit the left of my bike.

Like most people, I can't really remember much about the fall. I remember hitting my head HARD and crushing my lip on the front of my helmet. I heard the familiar griding sound of a bike sliding down a road (Those of you that have heard it will know exactly what I mean) and just rolled onto my back and looked at the sky.

I landed pretty much face-first and whilst I don't think it knocked me out as such it definitely dazed me, I remember just lying on the road staring at the blue sky, thinking "What have I done this time?" Before I knew it I had various faces staring down at me and I could hear the woman that had been driving the car was in a state - she was crying and saying how she hadn't slept enough and was late for work.

I wasn't in any pain on the ground, apart from a headache, a fat lip and a throbbing knee. But the people around me were intent on making sure I didn't try to move, so I didn't argue. Police arrived, paramedics arrived, and within ten minutes I had a neck brace around me and was stretchered into hospital.

Whilst in the hospital an officer came to talk to me. He told me that the woman driving the car had been charged with driving without due care and attention, and that there was a witness that they had taken who was driving directly behind me at the time. He read me my rights (which shocked me to be honest), but explained it was just a formality as he handed me a producer (My first one). Within an hour I was hobbling my way out of the hospital with a bruised knee (The doctor didn't feel anything was wrong so didn't X-ray it or anything, much to my insurer's surprise).

I had to borrow £105 off my grandmother in order to get my bike out of the recovery storage, either that or have to pay their ridiculous £12 a day storage charges. Hopefully we'll get that back off the woman's insurance.

Rider left and pillion left pegs have been snapped off. There's a big fat dent in the left exhaust where the center stand was pushed into it by the car, and the top fairing is well, battered. That aside, both me and the bike had a lucky escape. The engine is still running fine thanks to the engine bars, and so am I thanks to my gear!

Been in contact with Rider Support (Who are great!) and also my insurers. Will let you all know how it turns out Smile

Best of luck matey. I've had a few luckier escapes in those situations, people never pay attention at junctions, just pull out willy nilly. Usually women or kids in BMW's (where the hell do they get the money?)

Sorry to hear that mate. The worst part is hearing the bike scraping down the road!

Glad you're alright.

Argh, that noise of sliding bike. It's horrible.

Glad you're ok mate. If she's been charged it'll help your claim no end.

Make sure you claim for everything that's damaged, but only what's damaged.

Compensation culture sucks ass. You're ok, get your bike fixed and some new gear and all's good.

Sounds VERY similar to my accident, in the way it happened and where they hit the bike - did you crush your leg between car/bike ?

Glad to hear you are ok and the police actually did something! They said the same when I had my accident then dropped charges due to no evidence Evil or Very Mad

Get well soon Smile

I agree, but I have so many people telling me to sue, sue, sue! I really hate the morals behind it but I'm starting a 4 year course in Uni so the money would be really needed...

Think you're the first person to go to uni?

Get your bike fixed, get some new kit, if you're actually suffering, or lost money from work or whatever because of it, then fine. Get the money you're due.

Really pisses me off people that milk it.
I'm not saying you are btw.

Oh, and with uni, get used to being skint. It's actually part of the fun. (You'll be able to make a decent meal for just over 30p before long).
