Hello all, I bought this (bad boy) to fix up I've fitted an exhaust at the manifold as the pipe was bad and the gasket away. I replaced the gasket. The scooter only passed MOT in November, I can't understand how, but is quite rough as its been dropped a few times by the look of it.

My problem is the mixture going into the engine is almost only 2-smoke oil. As the engine will run at idle speed up to about 1/4 throttle but when i rev it it smokes like a 30's Hollywood heroine and then cuts out. I remove the plug and it is thick in oil. I have a set of manuals, thanks to this site, they are just the owners manual and don't show how to adjust the mixture. I understand this is done electronically somehow but don't know how to change the settings and make the mixture a bit more lean.

I would be very grateful if someone could help me out here, either tell me how its done, or perhaps point me in the direction of some procedures in the way of manuals with pictures.

Right i think you should look at the auto choke first (Big black bit on the carb with wires coming off it) Remove it and turn the ignition on, It should move. If it doesnt, replace it.

I've got a few standard carbs laying about and one has the mixture screw, The others a sort of triangle shaped bit (i assume it'll use a special tool for it) I really doubt the mixture will be managed by the electronics, Maybe if it was a ditech 50! Laughing

The only other thing i can really think of it the oil cable adjuster. Look on the left hand side of the engine and there'll be a plastic cover on it saying aprilia, Remove this (by taking off the airbox cover) You'll now be left with the metal transmission cover.

At the front of this will be a rubber circle, Push it in a bit to dislodge it then pull it out... Peep through the hole and youll be looking at the oil pump. It will probably need a clean, You'll then see a mark on the moving part (twist the throttle, You'll see what im on about) and there will be a mark on the oil pump housing, these should line up.

If they dont, You'll see the cable going into the casing on the left, Undo the nut and turn the adjuster until the marks are sitting inline (remember and do that while the throttles shut!)

Obviously refit all the bits and bobs, You might want to replace the air filter while your there.

Anything else PM me or something! Thumbs Up
